? Multimedia and Design First Computer sciences and Information technology d Multimedia and Design Introduction:Product design creates the users’ experience during the products’ life cycle. People perception towards the products’ design is either good or poor. Norman’s work on emotional appreciation is demanding readers’ own views. Wittkower‘s work is related to new inventions and advancement in the philosophical toolkits. Evans discusses the social media and its important aspects. In this paper, statements and questions regarding to three authors of different books are answered separately in three sections. 1. THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPERIENCES AND EMOTIONS (Norman) Norman (2004) in his book “Emotional Design” has given knowledge about the Psychology behind the design whether people think it bad or good. Norman in his book referred to three levels of processing such as visceral level, behavioral level, and reflective level. He justifies that how emotions impact their decisions and design. Visceral design of goods concerns the appearance of things. Materials, sounds, texts and smell are all features, which determine the relationship of consumers with objects. People attract the goods because these look good. Focus in the “Emotional design” is given to move the thinking from practical to products and services, which are enjoyable and give pleasure and fun to consumers. When Norman speaks on the design, he makes efforts to relate the users’ perception about the performance of objects and does not concern the visual sense of objects. It is also justified that Norman looked on the both sides of the story. Dichotomy approaches of objective and subjective are also focused in the Norman’s work. Norman’ book also concerns the emotional designs. Norman already wrote three books, which support to understand the authors feelings expressed in the current book. The work of the Norman is motivating and influencing in the field of design of objects. However, several shortcomings are also displayed which impact the quality of work. Young ideas are also problematic in reference to the theoretical framework of Norman. For example, Norman defined the positive and negative impacts, which were produced at the visceral level. In the later sections, he contradicted the definition about visceral level and added it two other levels such as behavioral and reflective. Three levels about design of objects demonstrate the overlapping from his discussion and render the precise of categorization in suspect. Instead of the flaws in the “Emotional Design” a vivid canvas is created that integrates the emotional facets into the field that is dominated by the technical concerns. Both subjective and objective approaches are illustrated through the examples. Innovation arise from the changing business needs and does not involve the emotions. For example, advent of colour TV was the demand and emotional needs of the users in the market 2. THE PHILOSOPHER'S TOOL KIT II (Wittkower) In the book of Wittkower (2008) the most part concerns the iPod and philosophy as an icon of ePoch. People differed mainly in concepts and theories on philosophy. Main theme of philosophy concerns the personal reflection and respond based on the experience. Core philosophy is thinking of human ability that enables people to invent, understand and respond to the questions. Association between philosophies is increasing in the context of academic learning. The close association between computer engineering and computer science also shapes popular culture. The culture of iPod emerged since 2001. Needs and demand of the people on the design of everything is also revealed. Therefore, this world is also designed in a way that very designed thing can be touched, felt and tasted. Not all the new innovative things are developed at once, but according to requirements and demands. Philosophy refreshes our minds for new things and concepts, and uncertainty about philosophy is most vital considered. Now a day the iPod is more common and known as the hyperbole. Use of iPod reveals that someone is busy and an important part of this universalized experience. In the Chapter 6 “Philosophy by iPod: wisdom to the people” the importance of iPod for a runner in the future and current time is narrated. IPod can facilitate and entertain the people as it contained much music. Within changing requirements, the iPod can serve the people in order to access the information. Philosophical information is also available on iPod. Important interviews of philosophers and their discussion are available through the internet. IPod with its capacity of the content distribution is considered as the “next generation book” as it allows the user to save and keep a number of books in their pockets. Academic survival is also ensured as the iPod solves the communication problem. If iPod has any communication issue, it will be solved when it is converted to iPhone. Philosophy uses the different kinds of resources for message conveying as message boards, chat rooms, and conference calls. In the extreme philosophy, the iPod may allow the response of the philosophy book. IPod is the product that represents the digital media players. IPod is now an indispensable tool for collective interaction, learning and entertainment. The iPod is another source for the fun games and one can play with his or her colleagues according to their wishes. Everything requires the appearance features such as design, shape and color as makers desires and thinks about it. A new term “Blojet” is also introduced that is a mixture of the two words such as blobby and object. iMac and beetle of Volkswagens are examples of blojet. The concept of iPhone development is a hybrid invention that consists of aspects such as accessibility, portability, content control and distribution of information. User feels happy by using the iPod as it stores a lot of information related with music. New developments in the iPod are occurring according to users’ demands. 3. UNDERSTANDING MEDIA (Evans) Evans says: "Even when you aren't listening, people are talking about you." (p.54) You must participate in the dialogues. In this statement, Evan has explored the evolution in marketing, as online marketing became the phenomenon of the companies through banners and graphic ads. However, these companies missed the opportunities because they had no representatives for issues in the forums. Evan also stated that if they had representatives in these forum discussions, they would have taken more engagement. Social media websites are the important source for companies to contact their customers and audience. However, social media is not properly used for the brand marketing and company’s representative cannot convey crafted messages on marketing. Theme of this statement lies that people discuss on the forums of websites regardless of physical locations of companies. One side conversation occurs until comments, review and rating of the customers are not shared through these social media websites. Sometimes YouTube also impacts the offline media because people also like them on the same type of social media. Blog is also a special type of the social media where thoughts, opinions and experience sprout off with companies’ products and brands. Conversation continues by posting the news or timelines on the blogs. When talk about the funding of the social media for marketing and other purpose, it is clear that companies pay these websites through the collection of taxes or charges. In the social context, the pornography is treated as a service for the social media. Pornography itself means the service for the education, lifestyle and entertainment. If social media works within the framework then no one can ask for the misuse of the social media. Sometime, the online pornography also becomes the place of the criminal groups (rape, sexual harassing) and it becomes impossible to identify the location of the criminal incidents. However, the information about the victim is available for viewers. In this way, the groups behind the crimes use the tactics for generation of revenue and use changing websites for their activities. According to Evans (2010), social media exists in different forms and for different people. Social media provides services for the people in different aspects. From the education point of view, it is a place for submission of articles, blog, videos, and images for the community. YouTube is the second most searched websites after the parent site Google. Social websites are also used for the marketing purposes. A company can gauge the progress of marketing by considering the number of views, number of feedbacks, and number of additional guests. Conclusions: Theme of philosophy concerns the personal reflection and respond based on the experience. Norman’s view about the visceral behavior about things is revealed. It also justified that However, some contradictory points are noticed when he added behavioral and reflective to visceral level. Wittkower’s discussion on philosophy and iPod reveals the importance of the philosophy toolkit. Advancement in the iPod is the next generation demand. Companies use the social media for products’ marketing and advertisement. Banners, blog and social websites are also sources for the online discussion. Sometimes, social websites become the place of people who misuse these online sources. Criminal people occupy the social websites and collect resources from unethical acts. Groups behind the crimes use different tactics and generate revenue by changing the websites for their activities. Statements regarding the views of Evans are also discussed in the context of Social media. References Evans, L.L. (2010).
