CREATING A STRONG RESEARCH PLAN al Affiliation Company and Organizational Background Pepsi Co Inc. is a food and beverage companythat has its headquarters in New York, United States. Business issue
Pepsi has been able to succeed not only in the US but also around the world. Being in the hospitality industry, the company has realized that employees are crucial in the reliability and efficiency with its operations. To be able to maintain its success story, Pepsi needs to look at its human resource policies and see where there are gaps and look for ways to make improvements.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis in this study include;
1. The motivation of employees is directly related to their salary.
2. Employees who are highly motivated perform well.
3. Employees motivation id direvtly related to the company reword system.
Research Objective
The main objective of this study is to analyze the human resource policy at Pepsi and to make any recommendation needed to improve these policies.
Specific Objectives
While conducting the research, the specific objectives will include;
1. To review the existing the pay and reward system at Pepsi and make sure that it is related to the amount of work that an employee does.
2. To analyze and improve employee development system at Pepsi by making through training that needs to be linked to the training needs.
3. To identify strategies that can improve employee motivational level by 10% every year.
Significance of the Study
This study is aimed at improving the human resource policies at the company and in improving the human resource management in general. The output from this study will inform the management team in the company on areas where they need to improve on in order to increase the performance level of the employees. It is expected that this study will also help other organization or businesses that want to improve on how they manage employees.
Research Approach
The research approach taken in this research is through the use of data collection methods like administering questionnaires, conducting interviews, and through research.
Research Setting
The study will be conducted between the 5th and the 6th week of the project duration. It is crucial to prove the hypothesis of this project by doing the actual data collection in the company.
Sample size
The size of the study group in this study was 30 people who will be chosen on a random basis in order to increase the reliability of the data collected because this method will give an objective representation of the study group.
Data Collection Procedure
In the data collection process, questionnaires will be distributed personally to the study group on a random basis. These group will also be involed in the interview process because the process of administering the questionnaires and the process of conducting the interviews will be done at the same time in order to save on time. Respondents will be involved in the data collection process on a voluntary basis.
Data collection methods
Data will be collected in a number of ways like;
Interviews
Interviews will be conducted on the study group of 30 people. The questions in the questionnaires will be the same once, which will be used in this process. This process will aim at making sure that the respondents have understood the questions so that accurate data is collected (BRINKMANN, 2013).
Questionnaires
Structured questionnaires will be administered randomly to 30 number of respondents chosen on a random basis and who were willing to participate in the study. Random administration of questionnaires increases the objectivity in data collection. This method is chosen because in increases the uniformity of the data collected. Uniformity will help in data analysis and comparison (GILLHAM, 2000). This method is chosen because it increases objectivity, is less expensive and easier to administer.
Observation
Observation will form part of data confirmation and comparison method. This method is crucial, especially in the pre-visit stage of the study to identify the crucial area to concentrate on during this study and in order to develop relevant questions in the data collection process.
E-newspapers, Books and Published Articles
E-newspapers, books, and published articles will be used to collect secondary data for the literature review stage of the study, to find more data on the topic.
Pre-Testing the questionnaire
This is a crucial step in any research because any form of error related to the research will be identified at this stage and be reduced. This process will help to increase the reliability and the validity of data collected by improving the quality of data. The process of pretesting involves a small sample of respondents from the target population. In this case, the sample will consist of five people who will be requested to comment on the questionnaire, from its design to the content of the questionnaire. This will help to identify any question that can contain ambiguous words, questions that may be misinterpreted, or sensitive questions which may prevent respondents from participating in the data collection process. It is expected that the recommendations provided will be implemented after the pre-testing process (FODDY, 1996).
Ethical Consideration
While conducting the research, a number of ethical concerns need to be addressed, including attaining informed consent from the respondents. The respondents need to understand what they will be doing and the risks that they will encounter during the study. They need to be informed about the details of the researcher and what the information collected would be used for (BRENNER, 1985).
Maintaining confidentiality and anonymity is another crucial ethical concern. Making information anonymous means removing the respondent’s name or any information that will make an individual be able to identify the respondent. This makes sure that people could not be identified from other information that they may provide. Confidentiality relates to protecting the data collected in a study. This increases the willingness of respondents to participate in the study and to answer the questions honestly without holding back.
Another ethic concern is avoiding causing harm and making judgement within what is considered to be within an acceptable level of harm. It is crucial to make sure that the place where the data was collected was ideal for the respondents. This is also by making sure that the study avoided sensitive topics, disclosure of personal information, stirring painful memories, and avoided unwelcome opinion (BIRCH, 2002). This also involved making ethical judgements when including information collected during the interview process. This is crucial because some respondents get emotional during the interview process and find themselves, saying comments that they would not want to be included in the study.
It is crucial for respondents be involved in the study on a voluntary basis. It is also crucial for the respondents to have the option of pulling out of the study at any time.
Potential Shortcomings
While conducting the study, a number of challenges can be expected that include; The risk of getting incomplete data from respondents. To overcome this problem, the respondents need to be given clear instructions in order to avoid the nullification of some answers and to avoid the risk of respondents not answering all the questions.
The willingness of respondents to participate in the study is another potential shortcoming because some respondents can become reluctant to participate in the study with the notion that the study will not be useful or with the notion that the study will negatively affect them. To be able to overcome this problem, respondents need to be taken through the significance of this study, and be assured of anonymity while they are filling the questionnaires (DREVER, 2003).
Another potential shortcoming is in the risk of collecting inaccurate data. This is because some respondents fail to fill all the questions. However, personally administering the questionnaires while conducting the interviews will mitigate the risk. This will also give the respondents a chance to seek clarifications for any question that they do not understand.
Employees may also fear that they will be victimized if they volunteer to be involved in the study. This may cause fear among the study group, who in turn may refuse to participate in the study. To minimize this risk, it will be crucial to involve the management team. If the management is seen to have accepted the exercise, people will be confident to participate in the study.
