Download file to see previous pages The development of the new Info-Point technology, a stand-alone information module designed to offer the public information on tourism, local shopping, weather, and transportation, has created the opportunity to successfully market these information technologies to different UK cities. The entire marketing concept is to establish self-service information centers that offer a wide variety of regional information, utilizing an easy-to-use touch screen methodology to cater to a broad mass market of consumers. 

Touch screen interface systems are becoming more and more common in the UK and abroad. During a pilot experiment using touch screen information technology, the automotive manufacturer Lexus piloted an information touch screen kiosk at a Toronto airport. During this 13-week study, the new interface was viewed by over 1.3 million people (Paul, 2009). In the UK, in several supermarkets using this self-service touch screen technology, consumer use of these technologies peaked over one million in just under nine months (Tarnowski, 2007). Today’s technology-savvy consumer is becoming more accustomed to these self-service technologies as they become more integrated into the community and retail landscapes, thus this represents a tremendous marketing opportunity if the correct marketing strategy can be developed. Because touch screen video systems are being used in many UK convention centers, airports, shopping malls, and supermarkets (Imber and Toffler, 2000), this represents a consumer market that is already familiar with self-service information points and actively understand their function and accessibility.

The new Info-Point information system will consist of a rigid iron frame further sporting a thick soda-lime glass which is cheap, optically clear, and can be forged to any desired thickness. These strong casting elements will protect the user-friendly touch screen computer and the associated display monitor as these information devices will be distributed in public, outdoor environments with a great deal of consumer foot traffic. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
