Nike terminates its relationship with Lance Armstrong only when the pressure from the public to do so intensified. Is it right for companies like Nike to Stand by their spokespeople when they are behaving in unethical ways?

All people competing in any kind of sport events preach that to be a great sportsman one needs to be driven by strong will, good values and most of all stay ethical to his fans and business partners.
Becoming exceptionally famous like Armstrong does not exempt him from following these unwritten rules for respect and good will (Duarte, 2013). What is more he had done the unspeakable. Not only did he breach the ethics taking drug enhancing steroids, but he also damaged the reputation of the companies that gave him the very sponsorship necessary so that he can continue training. The question whether Nike should have continued supporting Armstrong after the doping scandal is simple – no. Companies support sports personalities not only because of their achievements, but also because of what they stand for and symbolize – strong spirit, unbreakable will, lots of sacrifices and long hours of training for which they haven’t been paid for.
