Diversity in Organizations Introduction The diversity of thought and creativity is the latest change in work culture thatis being fostered by the companies in order to gain competitive advantage and sustainable business performance in the long run. In order to deliver unique service and solutions to the customers, the companies have focused on encouraging new ideas and thoughts from the people who challenge the dominant business logic. By accepting the innovative ideas which provide relative advantages over its competitors, the companies like Google have been able to increase their acceptability among the customers and attain a sustainable business position in the long run. Google has been a forerunner in encouraging diversity of thoughts and creativity that has led to the increasing use of its services by the customers. Google: Diversity of thought and creativity Google is a multinational company of US that provides internet related services to its customers all over the world. The company provides services in the areas of internet search activities, online software products, cloud computing and online advertising technologies. The online services provided by Google are with the help of a virtual communication medium that has attained increasing acceptance among the users all over the world. The overwhelming success of Google has been achieved with the help of innovation and creativity. Google has realized that the target group of customers of the company arte tech-savvy and therefore has the intellect to look forward to changes that would drive the process efficiency and profitability of any activity in real life as well as in the virtual platform. Moreover the online mode of services to the users may be monotonous in absence of any changes in way in which online services are being offered or in the presentation of the web pages of Google. Instead of going by the dominant logic, Google has loved its rebels and encouraged those employees to provide new ideas and initiatives that would open up unexplored opportunities in the field on cloud computing services, search engines, web accounts, and online mode of technologies, online software, etc. The diversity of thought and creativity encouraged by Google is the source of innovation that has led to the uniqueness of the company in establishing a competitive advantage over its competitors like, Yahoo. Google encouraging the rebel minds: challenging the dominant logic In order to provide a wide range of services containing innovative characteristic features or a new refreshing look, Google has strategically adopted the policy of encouraging innovative ideas from the rebels who challenge the dominant logic of the business processes. The innovative ideas from the employees are important and valuable inputs for the company that could be used for attracting the users of their online services. The new ideas provide the companies to develop cutting edge solutions which are unparallel to their competitors. The employees who challenge the dominant are viewed as assets by the organization as they are the source of innovative developments by the organization. Google believes that the dominant logic in the business is applied across the industry and has common features for the online services offered by all the companies through the virtual mode of business. The challenge of the dominant logic could only be initiated when the employees have in depth knowledge and experience to test the applications which are slightly different from the common practices at the same time fulfilled the goals of the organization. The encouragement of diversity and creativity enhances the knowledge of the workforce of the company as it leads to health exchange of ideas and thoughts for process improvement and customer service delivery. Rationale behind strategy of encouraging diversity of thought The rationale behind the strategy of encouragement of the diversity of thoughts and creativity by Google could be described as follows. The entire world is undergoing a shift from the physical mode to the online mode of business with the advent of technology. Thus the business through the use of virtual platform in offering services through cloud computing, online software and technologies have witnesses the emergence of several new companies planning to explore the potential of business of online search engine, web accounts and online transactions for products, software and services. In order to attain competitive advantage in the industry, the companies like Google who has world wide operations being run through its subsidiaries have adopted the new strategy of exploring the potential of diversity of thoughts and creativity. The encouragement of the employees in putting up proposals that challenge the dominant business logic was done in the best interest of the organization and also to identify unique talent for promoting them. These intellectual rebels are the important sources who would help the company to gain competitive advantage and attain sustainability on the long run. The relative benefits of the innovative ideas that challenge the prevailing business process of the company and its prospects in the long runs are evaluated by the company for implementation. The diversity of thoughts and creativity has derived highly positive results in the cost-benefit analysis of the companies as the ideas, new initiatives and thoughts are obtained at minimal cost which has the potential to offer huge benefits to the company. Google ways of promoting diversity of thought Google has adopted a strategic approach in encouraging the diversity of thought and creativity among its employees. The multinational company has a wide base of employees working across several subsidiaries of the company in different countries. In order to provide online services to the users of Google in different countries, the company needs to develop strategies that are compatible to the local culture and characteristics of the users. The company has adopted a strategy of not applying the same policy and approach for selling its services in all the markets across the world. The culture, habits, lifestyles and tastes of the customers are subject to change with time. In order to address these changes and adapt to the forces of change in the business environment, the company encourage diversity of thoughts and creativity from the rebel minds who challenge the dominant logic of targeting the customers. In order to appreciate the new ideas for change, the company invites creative thoughts for innovative design of presentation of the web pages, innovative technologies for design of the software, the innovative proposals on improvement of business performance (Carr-Ruffino 46). The company also rewards the employees whose creative ideas challenge the dominant logic of business process and have the potential to achieve high performance and delivery of services to the customers. The encouragement of diversity and creativity of ideas and thoughts by Google could be evidenced by the regular changes in the web-presentations implemented by Google. Google also created and delivered a new application software hat designed a new web account service with a comprehensive range of supporting services that was offered by no other service previously. Benefits of diversity of thought and creativity The benefits of encouraging the diversity of thoughts and creativity have been obtained by Google as discussed below. The implementation of innovative approach by the organization in delivering its online services to the customer has led to the development of the impression that the company carries on a continuous process of research and development of its business operation and looks to invite new ideas and thoughts for developing the quality of services provided to its customers. Looking at the past records of Google’s performance, it could be observed that Google has encouraged diversity of thoughts and creativity and implemented new changes in the presentation of the web application and the technologies and applications offered for the use of customers. This is visible through the new look of the Google web pages that keep on changing day after day and the comprehensive range of services included in the fee web accounts provided to its customers. The implementation of innovative strategies has led to the acceptability of the user which has shown an increasing trend over the years. The term “Google” has evolved as a verb used to perform daily functions of the users. Thus Google has been able to attain competitive edge over other players in the industry. The increasing business performance of Google has resulted in the increasing trend of revenue earnings and profitability of the company. Conclusion The companies like Google have strategically adopted the approach of encouraging new ideas and creative thoughts from the people who could rationally challenge the dominant business processes in the industry. The implementation of these innovative strategies has been cost effective for the entity that has been able to generate huge returns. Due to the innovative service delivery to its customers, Google has been able to increase its market share as more number of customers switched to Google as their preferred company. The diversity of thoughts and creativity are useful sources of innovation, research and development that improve the service portfolio of the company.
