Earnings per share rose from $3.27 in the year 2010 to $3.76 in the year 2011 (Telus, 2013c). The wireless internet connection users increased from 6971000 in the year 2010 to 7340000 in the year 2011. The television subscribers had increased from 314000 in the year 2010 to 509000 in the year 2011 (Telus, 2013c).The main objective of the company was to invest in broadband data technology and services (Telus, 2013a). Let us analyze the chart which shows the growth of internet connection users over the years: Figure 1: Internet connection users We can observe from the above mentioned chart that the wireless internet connection users has increased considerably over the years (Telus, 2013c). Telus communications needs to improvise its telecommunication and internet services to supersede Shaw communications. Marketing strategy The company has taken several environment friendly measures (Telus, 2013b).The environmental policies undertaken by the company are mentioned below: To develop sustainable development by integrating economic, social and environmental policies. To undertake environment friendly measure in cooperation with the management, team members and customers (Telus, 2013b). Competitors of Telus communications Rogers Communications Inc The company came into existence in the year 1986. It provides telecom and media services and a varied range of wireless communication services. Bell Canada Inc The company was founded in 1880. It provides a comprehensive set of broadband communication services to business and residential customers in Canada. Shaw communications The company was founded in the year 1966 under the name Capital Cable Television Ltd. The company provides cable television, telecom and digitalized satellite services. The company provides High Definition support to the television channels of Canada. Rogers Communications Inc The company provides cable television services, high speed internet connection and telecom products for consumers. Rogers Business Solutions which is a subsidiary company of Telus communications provides business telecom, data networking and IP (Internet Protocol) solutions to small, medium and large enterprise, government and carrier customers. The company’s stocks are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) (Rogers, 2013b) Current position of Rogers Communications Inc The revenue of the company increased from $12.142 million in the year 2010 to $12.428 million in the year 2011. Earnings per share increased from $2.89 in the year 2010 to $3.19 in the year 2011. The wireless internet connection users increased from 8977000 in the year 2010 to 9335000 in the year 2011. The cable television subscribers increased from 2297000 in the year 2010 to 2305000 in the year 2011. Bell Canada Inc (BCE) The company provides solutions to business enterprises and customers. It provides wireless connections through Bell Mobility, SOLO and Virgin Mobile Canada (Bells, 2013b). It provides high speed internet and satellite television services. It is one of the leading digital connection service providers and serves around 2.1 million customers (Bells, 2013a). The revenue of wireless communication sector increased from $18.069 million in the year 2010 to $19.47 million in the year 2011.The earnings per share increased from $2.79 in the year 2010 to $3.13 in the year 2011. The wireless internet connection users increased from 7,374,410 in the year 2010 to 7,572,651 in the year 2011. The television subscribers increased from 2,102,762 in the year 2010 to 2,198,335 in the year 2011 (Bells, 2013a). The revenue of the company increased from $3.7 million in the year 2010 to $4.7 million in the year 2011. The revenues of the company grew from 9.6 percent in the year 2010 to 17.5 percent in the year 2011. The digital phone line connections increased from 234,402 in the year 2010 to 1,096,306 in the year 2011. The internet subscribers increased from 54,217 in the year 2010 to 1,877,231 in the year 2011. The company provides excellent digitalized satellite services to customers and most of the Canadian channels are owned by Shaw Broadcast Services. Shaw communications is a subsidiary of the Shaw broadcast service. In the year 2010, the company launched its Video on Demand (VOD) service which enables customers to view their favorite television shows and channels at any time of the day (Shaw, 2013). The company offers cable television services and telecom products to consumers. It also provides internet services through the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), 3G HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and highly-advanced 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology. The company is the only internet service provider in Canada which uses Geographical Information System (GIS). It integrates disparate data sets into a common map display by using a central spatial data infrastructure. This helps the company to manage the customer and network operations data (Tata Consultancy Service, 2009). Bell Canada Inc $18.069 million 7572651 wireless internet users, 2198335 television subscribers (Bells, 2013a). The company is providing (Direct to Home) DTH satellite services since 1997. The company provides internet and data access with a speed as high as 75 Mbps, making it easier for users to download applications, stream HD video and music, play on line games or video conference. The only internet service provider of the company which uses IP Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) architecture, based on Cisco technology. This technology helps the company to transport voice, data, and video over a single IP network and create a foundation for delivering advanced, value-added network services (Computer Information System Company, 2009). Shaw Communications $4.07 million 1877231 wireless internet connection users, 1096306 telephone connections. The company provides digital subscription video and audio programming services from satellites directly to subscribers’ homes and businesses. The company also offers cable television services and high speed internet connection. (Shaw, 2013). The only internet service provider to offer internet speed up to 250 mbps.
