The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore the opinions of 20 Qatari women within Doha, State of Qatar who occupy executive leadership positions in the public health sector and to examine their diverse views regarding Qatari working women and the challenges they face in Qatari society. The paper will also review healthcare archives for information regarding the employment of women in the Qatari healthcare sector. The objective is to interview 20 women, to understand the employment challenges and social attitudes of Qatari women towards working outside the home, and the attitudes which may limit the presence of women in the workforce, especially at the executive level.
The particular focus is on Qatari women employed in the public health care sector: as Bahry and Marr (2005) observed, education, health care and secretarial are among the major careers preferred by women, which less demanding than many other careers that are assumed to be predominantly for men.Parvis (2003) observed that there is still evident skepticism among some employers regarding the capacity of women to accomplish workplace duties as well as family responsibilities. Employers tend to segregate women from some of the tasks that are viewed as fit for men.
