The steps taken by this Indian IT giant in institutionalizing organizational learning have been discussed largely from the perspective of human resource management and it has also been discussed as to how knowledge generation takes place within the organization.

This report will aim at critically evaluating the role of human networks in knowledge creation and knowledge sharing within Patni Computer Systems Ltd. (Patni). For this purpose, an extensive literature review will be undertaken and various theories pertaining to human resource management will be made use of. Finally, the report will be concluded by suggesting ways to enhance the efficiency of the said aspects.

Patni is “a global IT services provider and one of India’s largest software producers” (Plunkett, 2006). It has an employee base comprising 14000 professionals and it provides services to an excess of four hundred companies in the Fortune1000 league (Patni-website-a, 2009). The company has a vision “to be a trusted partner, powered by passionate minds, creating innovative options to excel” (Patni-website-b, 2009). It extensively makes use of structured methodologies along with practices of Six Sigma in order to continually achieve process improvements. It continually strives to generate valuable knowledge “that can be reused and applied to reduce throughput time and shorten the learning curve” (Kadapa, 2006, P. 271). 

The Knowledge Management Initiative (KMI) of Patni aims to achieve the goal, “Building Knowledge, Creating Value” by centering its activities on the theme that says, “Build once, reuse many times” (Kadapa, 2006, P. 274). The primary objective of the Patni KMI which is based largely on the tenets of organizational learning (OL) and knowledge management (KM) is to provide the employees with a knowledge source that may be utilized for self-training by individuals, for shortening delivery time of projects and to serve as a foundation for strategy formulation.     ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
