Download file to see previous pages There are eight leadership theories that can be considered as the most persuasive and convincing in terms of the concept of leadership in various organizations. Leadership depends on the traits and skills that those people should have in order to lead. The leadership theories that are considered convincing are Great Man theories, Trait Theories, Contingency Theories, Situational Theories, Behavioral Theories, Participative Theories, Management theories or Transactional theories and Relationship theories or Transformational theories (Wagner, 2005).

The leaders that come under the category of Great Man theories are those who have the inborn capability of leadership. The leaders that come under these theories are considered as mythic or heroic figures that are capable of leading people on the basis of their inherent and innate qualities and skills of leadership (Wagner, 2005). From their childhood, such leaders are considered to go towards the line of leadership. As far as the name that is given to this theory that is Great Man theory is because initially leadership was considered a male governed aspect and only male members of the society were involved in taking leadership tasks (Wagner, 2005).

Trait theories of leadership take into consideration such leaders that adopt certain traits of leadership on the basis of their inheritance. The traits of leadership in such leaders are inherited in them. Leaders have certain traits and qualities that are part of their personalities due to which, they are called leaders (Wagner, 2005). Leaders that come under the category of Trait theories are such leaders who have certain leadership qualities.

The leaders that come under the category of Contingency theories are such leaders that have to capability to adopt different leadership styles in different situations (Wagner, 2005).
