Download file to see previous pages Kathryn Marley is the vice president of the operations and supply chain management who seeks to progress the company in the best way possible by deciding to install an MRP system. However, the MRP system does not seem to be reliable because it does not provide a formal system in planning and does not provide information on shortages and losses on scrap. This leads to unpredictability of the receipts scheduled because in some weeks there would be hardly any order processing while in the other week there would be quite a lot of work on order processing leading to working overtime. In this paper, I will seek to address the importance of logistics issues and operation management in a manufacturing industry that puts the company at a competitive advantage over the other industries in the market.
The MRP system has led the company to start declining in its operation and this is posing a great challenge in the success of the organization. The system is not consistent because the order release is not consistent leading to some cases where the company is forced to produce many orders just to keep workers busy. Moreover, the overseas customers have been complaining about the late delivery of the ordered goods which is not the company’s objectives. The buyers are spending more time following up on late shipments instead of concentrating on buying of goods. This is due to the inconsistent MRP system incorporated in the company. The new system has brought the problem of delivering products on time.
It is very important that the released order schedule shows an even distribution of workload over the coming period. When there are any urgent customer needs or any delays, this may cause overtime in working because the MRP system is not effective enough to improve labor utilization. Despite the system monitoring effectively the inventory it must be updated to reflect changes in the scheduled receipts.
