Organizational Behavior in Axle Color Studio In evaluation of the operations and management of Axle Color Studio, our team, made up of well-trained members on matters relating to Organizational Behavior, was able to come up with several findings that were useful in formulating solutions used to improve the operations of the salon as well as other relevant business organizations. To start with, through the interview contacted to the owners and other employees, our team was able to point out several things concerning the work force and owners of Axle Color Studio. We were able to establish that Axle Color Studio, which started in the year 2012, has a total number of twelve employees including the owners. In addition, the employees are categorized based on the roles performed in the salon. Therefore, the Axle Color Studio workforce consists of two owners namely Jackie Williams and Alex Williams, 1 manager, 1 assistant manager, 5 stylists, and 3 assistants. Further, the team also found out that the workforce was homogenous consisting of 10 women and 2 men from different backgrounds. In addition, the age limit of all the employees was between 19 and 35 years old. Secondly, our team was able to point out several issues regarding how the organization motivates the workforce in the organization. The owners of Axle Color Studio motivate the employees through various methods that include setting and monitoring goals where employees are motivated to know that they can achieve specific goals that are set in the organization, setting performance standards associated with career path and pay rise of employees, and establishment of effective communication channels. The effective communication channels motivate the employees since they can freely communicate to the management in addition to providing a platform for effective conflict resolution in the work place. Lastly, our team found out that the organization also faces different types of conflicts like other big organization. Through the interview contacted in the organization, Alex and Jackie informed our team that the most common form of conflict in the organization is the relationship conflict. However, the owners of Axle Color Studio were quick to point out that the conflict emanated mostly from personal relationships outside the business. The other type of conflict identified was task conflict where the content of work overlaps each other. In this case, Alex and Jackie pointed out that there were law levels of task conflict within their organization. Considering the practical implementations within the organization, our team was able to point out several things concerning the management strengths and weaknesses. Firstly, the management team of Axle Color Studio has several strengths that were easy to point out during the interview. The methods used to motivate the employees signify how the management is keen to increase employee productivity in the organization. During the interviews contacted by Shannon and Janelle to the owners of the salon, Alex and Jackie informed our team members that regular meetings are carried out with a basic aim of motivating the employees in order to boost their performance and hence better results for the organization. The various methods used to motivate the employees include evaluating the performance of the employees and their achievements against the set goals. This motivates the employees because it is during the evaluation of performance that employees who meet the target goals get recognition while those with challenges get advice on methods of improving their performance. In addition, the management has devised indicators used to evaluating performance of the stylists namely client count, pre-booking rate, retail sales, and average ticket price. Other methods used to motivate employees that indicate the strengths of Axle Color Studio management team include establishment of effective communication channels and reward based career path. Our team was able to establish that effective communication channels existed in the organization based on the level of interaction portrayed by the managers and the owners. This is evidenced by the answers given by the owners during the interview while trying to explain the level of task conflict in the organization. Jackie and Alex pointed out that they occasionally ask for the employee opinions on different things that take place in the salon. This signifies how the owners are free to communicate to the employees. In addition, good relationships developed through effective communication systems form a strong basis of good management team. On the other hand, the management team of Axle Color Studio also has some weaknesses. To start with, the owners of the salon and the manager do not have the same opinion regarding the rewards given to the employees in order to motivate them. According to Megan, the manager, employees in Axle Color Studio do not deserve the many extrinsic rewards given out by Axle Color Studio. This shows that despite the effective communication channels established in the organization, the owners do not consult effectively with the top managers in the organization. This is a weakness within the management team because for effective management to take place in the organization, the top managers and the directors have to agree on specific objectives. Another management weakness identified in Axle Color Studio is the inability of the management to set up strict rules and guidelines. During the interview, Alex and Jackie admitted that there have been constant relationship conflict in the organization despite telling the employees no to bring personal conflicts in the organization. This indicates weakness within the management because managers should be able to set up strict regulations that determine the mode of operation within the organization. Considering the nature of salon business, we can confidently recommend a client to invest in this sector. This is because the income levels in the business depend on the quality of services offered to the customers. This means that the investors can take charge of the quality of services offered by the employees through motivation. This is shown by the way Axle Color Studio management motivates the employees in order to facilitate quality service provision as well as increase the organization income. In addition, good quality services enable the business to be competitive in the market thereby attracting more customers through referral methods and retaining already existing customers. However, in order to improve the organizational effectiveness, the client should consider improving several areas. Firstly, the employees should receive extrinsic motivation rewards based strictly on their performance. This is shown by sentiments of Megan during the interview where it was pointed out that the employees of Axle Color Studio felt that it was their right to receive the motivational rewards from time to time. Secondly, the client should consider strengthening the management decisions so that all the employees can abide by them. This is shown by increased relationship conflicts in Axle Color Studio despite the fact that employees were required not to involve personal relationships in the business. Lastly, the study carried out in Axle Color Studio was limiting on several aspects. To begin with, the times spend to gather all the information concerning the salon was limited. This is because time spend for the interviews was limited and could not allow every respondent to give out all information concerning the organization. Secondly, assessing the organization through interview alone was not very effective. This is because we could only rely on the information given even if it was false information. Future studies on the same topics should give room for the teams to observe effects of motivation on employees over a given period. Read More
