Providing the Best (Personal Branding) Since I was a little boy I have always admired people in the banking industry. This transformed to be a career of choice in which I desired to work in. My father usually went with me to the bank when he needed to pay bills, school fees or withdraw large sums of money that could not be done via the automated teller machine. I would always wait for him as he went about his activities at the bank. This gave me a lot of time to observe the staff who worked in the banks. I noticed that the tellers were usually dressed smartly where women often wore skirt suits while the men wore classy suits. I think this is what attracted me to the profession during my youthful days. However, as I grew up I came to learn more about the banking industry and the opportunities that presents itself to people in the industry. As I went on my high school education, I did more research on what subjects I was required to pass in order for me to join a campus in pursuing a relevant course. It is after high school that I decided to pursue a bachelor’s course in management, which I knew would be instrumental in achieving my professional goals. As I go about my campus education, I have learned a lot both about the industry and myself that equips me with all the necessary skills needed for a career in the industry. I have learnt a lot, and still believe that there is more to learn in and from the industry. Throughout my education life, I have acquired various skills. Firstly, I have acquired great computer skills both through education, and through my own general practice. I am proficient in Microsoft office applications. I have perfected my skills especially in Microsoft word, Microsoft access, Microsoft power point, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft publisher. I have focused mainly on these five applications since they are the ones used among the Microsoft office applications in the banking industry. For example, Microsoft excel and Microsoft access are instrumental in the industry since they are used for record keeping and some mathematical computations. I also posses skills in operating and maintaining various databases which include Oracle and SQL which are key solutions used in the banking industry. I am very good in book keeping since I have studied thoroughly theories, concepts and different accounting techniques. This I have done by personally studying CPA. I posses good communication skills which I have acquired over the years especially in my campus education. I also possess profound marketing skills, which I have acquired throughout the course. Such skills have been strengthened during small business projects that I have undertaken together with my classmates that have required us to use and compliment our skills since we needed to market both our products and ourselves. All the above skills are crucial in the banking industry irrespective of the profession one specializes in. when it comes to management I believe the skills I posses are very advantageous and some distinguish me from others in the discipline. I believe that in any profession personal values are important since they help one in making sure that they approach their profession with ethically. I come from a Christian family hence I have had Christian values instilled in me since I was a child. I believe in being honest thus as I go about my life I make sure I am honest all the time. This is advantageous since honesty is important especially in the banking industry since one is tasked with handling huge sum of money where without honesty one might be influenced to try and steal some. I also believe in working hard and going out of my way in meeting both my goals and those of the institutions. I also believe in giving back to the community especially if I am financially able. This is where I believe that I must help those unfortunate in life both financially and emotionally since it is a humane thing to do. I also believe that conservation of the environment is paramount and I do my best to ensure I help in the conservation of the environments. Finally, I believe that all human beings should strive to make the world a better place in any way possible thus my objective is to add value to any organization I wok in and my community making it a better place than I found it. One trait that I posses is the fact that I am very adaptable. This means I can work in any environment mental, physical, or geographical. I am also very hard working where I go out of my way to ensure that I complete all of my tasks. I am also very devoted to any task that undertake which ensures that I make sure my work is done thoroughly. I am also a good time keeper where I ensure that I do things early enough in order to ensure that I am never late in delivering. I am an easy going person which is instrumental when dealing with clients, investors, employees, and employers. My major achievement is the fact that implemented a database management solution in our family businesses, which has resulted in easier management and record keeping resulting in increased profits. I have also started a small business in partnership with two of my friends where we sell fast food to students in our school. I have gained remarkable experience especially during my internship at Credit Finance Inc where I was charged with managing small aspects of the human resource department such as keeping employee records up to date. I have also gained management experience in the small business that I have with my friends. Experience has come about through my responsibility in managing the funds that we get from both investors and sales. My book keeping skills have also been perfected since I am the one tasked in all accounting needs of the establishment. I feel that my skills, values, traits, achievements, and experience are a major component of my personal brand. This is why I have dwelt on theme deeply. First, I believe that they make my brand unique, which is one of the key elements of making a good personal brand (Schawbel, 2009). For instance, I have gone out of my way to acquire skills such as operating oracle databases, which is not Part of the course structure in the course I am undertaking which makes me stand out from the rest. My main target is the banking industry specifically in management. I believe if given an opportunity in the sector I will add value to the establishment(s) by working very hard and ensuring that the organization(s) is always moving forward. For instance, I make it an objective to know about technological advancements in the industry each month. This is instrumental since I will ensure that both the organization and I are up to date with such advancement ensuring that together with the establishment. For example, being an oracle certified profession makes sure that I am competent and up to date with all Oracle database solutions. Though this is more of a technical skill, it goes a long way in management of a banking organization since management is tasked with planning, controlling, organizing among others. Hence, one is able to make decisions even if they are technical in nature since by having such skills I am able to decide what is best for the establishment technologically. In order to establish the major components of my personal brand it was crucial that I undertook a SWOT analysis where I critically assessed my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and traits. This is of importance since it is the best way for one to know themselves without the opinion of others.
