He has also attained a Masters of Science degree from the University of Aston, at Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Mr. Ravi was later conferred with an Honorary D.Sc degree by the Aston University in U.K in July 2008. He also holds the status of an Honorary Industrial Professor – from the University of Warwick, which is based at Birmingham in the U.K. He was also awarded the honor of being the BMA management Man of the year, in September 2008. Mr. Ravi has also been awarded a distinction for Alumunus Awards by the Mayo College (Forbes, 2012). Mr. Kant’s work experience is extensive, as he is working as a member of the Governing committee of the Vale Columbia center, which is a leading institution on sustainable global Investment.

He is also part of the board of Smile Train, which is a global cleft lip charity institution. He is a member of the board of the National Institute of Design; chairman to the IIM and has served as the Chair of the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). He has worked and gained in-depth experience in the marketing and manufacturing fields, chiefly in the automobile industry. Before joining the automobile company, he was working with the Philips India limited, the Titan watches company, the LML limited, the Hawkins Cookers company, and the Kinetic Engineering Company. Mr. Ravi has been with the automaker since July 2000, as an executive director at the CVBU (Commercial Vehicle Business Unit) department.

At this post, he was in charge of the manufactory and marketing at the CVBU department. He was later assigned the role of the Managing Director in July 2005. In 2009 he was appointed as the Non-Executive Vice-Chair for the Board of Directors, starting his work at this capacity in June 2009. He is also serving as a board member of a number of joint ventures for the Group: Tata Industries and the Voltas Limited (Forbes, 2012). From the interview with Mr. Kant, he identified a few of his characteristics, which have helped him become the exceptional leader he has been all through the years.

These characteristics include that he is a highly self-aware person, highly ambitious, flexible and open to change of plans and style, always eager to learn, and a highly creative person. He also identified himself as a very decisive person, highly visionary, and persistent in the pursuit of his goals. For instance, he pointed out that he does not stop until he has accomplished the goals he sets. These characteristics are also the ones that he imposes in his leadership style, and to the organizations he is leading – which have resulted in his successful leadership track (R.

Kant, personal communication, October 26, 2012). Tata Motors, formerly known as TELCO is the largest multinational automobile manufacturer in India. The company has its headquarters at Mumbai, in India and has a number of subsidiaries. The company manufactures passenger trucks, cars, vans, buses, trucks, coaches and military vehicles. The company is the eighteenth-largest automaker in the world, the fourth-largest manufacturer of trucks, and the second-largest manufacturer of buses internationally.

The company was founded in 1945 as a maker of locomotives, and then entered into the manufactory of vehicles in 1954 through collaboration with Daimler-Benz AG (Rodrigues, 2007). The collaboration ended in 1969 –
