Literature The paper is a detailed account showing four different children’s books that will help in literature development of the young children. The four books that appear in this analysis are The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Snowy Day, Corduroy and The Giving Tree among other books that children will enjoy. These books contain descriptive stories that will assist the children in the development of literature and the formation of words in sentences. They help the children to perfect the structure of simple words and phrases as well as improve their literacy skills in the initial stages. Furthermore, each of these books is meant to help the children to improve their English skills. Therefore, these books are meant to help the children to develop their English skills. Therefore, these books will assist the children in their development of the English language as well as helping them in the formulation of the English language. Therefore, the importance of the development of the children literature is a vital part of the development of English literature. These books will help to develop English literature as well as help the teachers to develop strategies to help these young children to improve their literature (Hunt, 2013). Furthermore, by introducing the children to these literary works will enhance their ability to interpret literature. The curriculum content of these books aims at helping students of different socio-economic backgrounds so that they may develop their interpretation of literature. Therefore, when all these components appear in a piece of literature, then these components will lead to the improvement of a child's perspective of research. We now take the time to analyze these books individually and examine their importance in helping to develop child literature. Each particular book has a definite role to play. Foundation Year 2 Week One The Very Hungry Caterpillar-Children Picture Book Language Variation and Change This story is an attractive picture book that details the life of a caterpillar in a descriptive and simple way in which children will understand. It brings about a simple way for very young students to learn because of its natural picture layout, simple words and attractive formatting. It also enables the young child to read actively out and use illustrations as they take part in learning. By use of this book, the child will learn how to read and interpret drawings in an accessible and understandable way. I would help the children in a way that would see them as the book and gain interest in reading it (Cai, 2014). The introduction to the book to the children would be done by displaying the book for all the children to see and asking them to describe the caterpillar. After this, asking the children to read out the title of the book and then asking them to go through the pages slowly so that they get used to the concepts of the book. It would also be important to ask the children of what they know about caterpillars. The Snowy Day-Non-Fiction Children’s Book Language for Interaction This is another child literature book that is fun to read and easy to understand by young students. Furthermore, the book focuses on teaching the young child essential components of literature such as sentence structure, the basic reading skills and interpretation of pictures. The book has simple stories with themes that the students find easy to understand. By reading this book, the student will get to learn how to read and form simple sentence structures in a way that is enjoyable. This book can help young children understand new concepts, and a vivid description and getting the children involved in the story will help them understand the book. The story describes the experiences of a young boy on a snowy day, and the teacher should provide a scenario where the children can recollect his experiences in the snow. Helping them find out how footprints look like in the snow would be a good way to start. Also, helping the children to draw a snowman would be an excellent way to open up their thoughts before reading the full story to them. The book has an imaginative and captivating storyline that the child will enjoy and participate. The book is suitable for young readers and will help in language development. Therefore, it is a necessary read for the young students (Hunt, 2013). The book is a creative storybook with pictures for young children. Before reading this book out to the children, help them understand what corduroy is. Show them a piece of corduroy material so that they know what it is physical. Give the children a few ideas concerning corduroy and what it is. Let them find out a few materials that are made by corduroy and how they look. Also, help them identify different uses of corduroy, and what it applies. The Giving Tree-Children’s Book Expressing and Developing Ideas This is another easy to use children’s literature book that can assist children to learn the basics of writing. Reading this book will give the child a new outlook on literature as well as helping them to understand the basics of the English language. It is easy to read with lots of pictures and easily formatted words. This book is suitable for students of the English language. The book highlights the relationship between a boy and a tree, and it helps the reader understand the importance of coexisting with others in the community. Therefore, as you read the book to the children, help them understand the importance of maintaining good relationships in life. As you go thru the book with the children, help them understand the relationship between the boy and the tree at different stages, as you tell the children of various growth stages in life. When you are through with reading the book to the children, discuss with them the importance of taking care of the environment, and how it would benefit them. Week 2 The Carrot Seed-Children’s Picture Book Sound and Letter Knowledge This is the story of a young boy who planted a carrot seed and waited for it to grow. He nurtured and tended to it and one day the seed germinated and eventually, it became. The story is important in helping young children understand agriculture and develop an interest in it. This book has simple sentences that are easy for the reader to understand and involves natural understanding concepts. The teacher can introduce the children to the storyline by showing the class some carrots, and passing them around for everyone to see (Cai, 2014). A practical approach can also be taken by asking the children to come up with different uses of carrot, for example gathering them together to make a recipe that involves the use of carrots. Discuss with the children the process that the boy went through before the carrot germinated. Help them understand the various processes that the boy engaged in to get the carrot seed to germinate. Help the class to plant a carrot seed as a project, go through all the stages with them, and when you are through, give the seed time to germinate and when the seed finally grows, let the whole class see and discuss. Make way for Ducklings-Non-Fiction Children’s Book Text Structure and Organization This book fits the children for learning, and the teacher will enjoy narrating the story to the children. It is a straightforward book that focuses on the lives of a family of ducks. It has a simple flow and does not need much explanation, as the children will quickly follow the script. It will also be easy to help the children to navigate around the book through word games, number games and the like. The teacher can help the children to recite the names of all the ducks, as they have similar rhyming words. This will assist the children with word formation and the ability to mention rhyming words. Another method of learning is using the book to indicate the numbers of ducks in the story and asking the children to mention the duck names and count them each. The use of various concepts from the book will help the children to improve their language. By using word games and number games, the children will get to understand more about the basic number and word forms. The Little Engine that Could-Children’s Book Language for Interaction This book is a good introductory read for young pupils and has an easy to follow plot that excites the reader. Introducing the book to the students would involve showing them the front cover page and asking them what they think it is. The teacher can then ask fundamental questions concerning the engine and the students can give their varying views on the train and what they think about it. The teacher can then discuss the title of the book to the pupils and have them air their varying views concerning the little engine and what it could do or could not do. Let them discuss amongst themselves and give their opinions. Before reading the story to the pupils, the teacher should explain the circumstances surrounding the little train, so that the students can have an outline of the story(Knickerbocker&Reninger,2014).After reading the story, the teacher can test the general knowledge of the students by asking if they know about trains, and what they know about trains. Also, give them time to discuss issues in their lives similar to the train, and explain to them the importance of determination in anything that they do. By the end of the session, they should know the moral of the story. The Beetle Book-Older and Advanced Readers Language Variation and Change This book contains vivid descriptions and illustrations of beetles and gives the reader all the details they need to know about these insects. It provides well-decorated and clear images of the insects as well as all the details that the reader needs to know about them. Using this book with students will help them understand more about beetles as well as appreciate their place in nature. The teacher can discuss with the pupils concerning this book to see if they understand the concepts about it (Cai, 2014). The teacher can ask the students how to establish whether an insect is a beetle or not. Also, the teacher can ask students to think of the various beetles they have encountered, as well as whether or not they can identify the various different beetles. Also, the teacher can tell the students to draw beetles of different types and present them to the class for assessment. Week 3 Where the Wild Things Are-Children’s Picture Book Sound and Letter Knowledge- The book is simple to be read for children filled with illustrations that the children will enjoy reading. The teacher can also involve the children so that they understand the concept behind the book and understand it thoroughly. The teacher should go through the book with the pupils and ensure that they understand the basic idea behind the book. After reading the book, he teacher should ask a few questions such as what kind of mischief Max participated in, and how his mother reacted to the damage. The teacher can also ask the students how this made him feel. After this, help them compare themselves with Max and put them in a reflective state as to be able to understand the scenario behind the book. The primary aim of the teacher should be helping the students to use their imagination just as Max used his own and created a situation that allows them to do so. The Locket of Dreams-Children Book Sound and Letter Knowledge This story revolves around a girl called Sophia, who discovers a locket in an old box that belonged to her great-grandmother. She falls asleep wearing the locket and travels back in time to Scotland. She makes many discoveries and experiences adventures in the story. This book is suitable for readers of advanced age and can apply as a literary work in the classroom. After reading the book, the teacher can involve the students in discussing a broad range of topics such as how it was living historically in the 1850's and how it was in Scotland and Australia at that particular time. It would also be important to help the students understand the importance of family history. In this story, family history and lineage are a critical theme. The teacher should get the students to map out their family lineage and identify their relatives from generations behind. The Little Book of Sloth- Non-Fiction Expressing and Developing Ideas This is a descriptive picture book for young children that helps them understand more about the sloth and how it lives. The book uses many pictures to help the young children understand more about the sloth, and the simple language vividly describes this animal for the reader to understand. The teacher should read the book aloud to the pupils and show them illustrations so that they understand more about the sloth. After reading the entire book, the teacher should involve the student in describing the sloth and drawing pictures of it so that everyone can understand how it looks. The teacher should encourage the pupils to watch programs where they see sloths and observe how it behaves (Hunt, 2013). By doing so, the student will have a clear understanding of this animal, and the teacher would achieve more by asking the pupils to demonstrate how the sloth is and how it behaves. Owl Moon-Older and Advanced Readers Language Variation and Change This book describes the late night adventure of a girl and her father as they go owling. It looks into the quest of a father and daughter to find the great horned owl. The teacher can read this story aloud to the pupils as they listen to it, and later on ask questions to see if they understand the book. Since this story generates from Massachusetts, help the children locate Massachusetts on the map and help them memorize and understand where it is. Also, help the students get more information about the great horned owl. Show the class pictures of the owl and help them understand more about it. Ask them if they have ever seen it, and what they know about it. Explain to the students what owling is and ask how many have gone owling before. Week 4 Millions of Cats-Children’s Picture Book Text Structure and Organization This story is about an elderly couple that decides to get a cat because of their loneliness. The man goes to a place that is known to have cats, and he picks one cat and ends up pulling more and more of them. Eventually, the whole house if filled with cats that the old man has fallen. They had too many cats and in the end, they could only remain with one cat. As the cats had a disagreement, one of them remained and hid as they all left, and this cat stayed with the old couple. This story has the focus on cats, and the teacher can engage the pupils in conversation after they hear the whole thing. The teacher may ask questions concerning cats like how many of them own cats, how many of them like cats, etc. This will help to open up the students’ minds and interest them in the topic (Knickerbocker & Reninger, 2013). Let the students tell how many of them have cats as pets at home, and they take care of their pet cats. The Polar Express-Children’s Book Language for Interaction This story explains the magical adventure of a young boy who goes on a journey to the North Pole on Christmas Eve and encounters Santa. He witnesses Santa and the elves as they prepare Christmas presents for children all over the world. This story describes his adventures in this fantasy tale as he makes new discoveries about Christmas. This story is very descriptive and imaginative, and as you read it with the pupils, helps them recognize the importance of appreciating imagination and fantasy as it applies in the book. Help them use their imagination by coming up with an entirely imaginative story of a journey to a foreign land or something similar. Assist the students appreciate the imagination and creativity in the book. Fog a Dox-Non-Fiction Language Variation and Change This story tells us about a man who brings home four orphaned cubs from the wild. He has a dog, which nurses these cubs. Later on, they grow up and return to the wild except one. This story tells us about the adventures that this tame fox has in his new home. The teacher can read this story with the pupils and discuss what they have observed through the story. When the students have fully understood the book, the teacher can ask them about some of the themes they encounter in the book like loyalty and patience. After this, the teacher can take the time to ask the student to reflect if they have ever been in situations where they showed these virtues (Cai, 2014). The teacher can then ask the pupils if they have ever seen the Fox and if so what their experience was. This is not my hat-Older and Advanced Readers Expressing and Developing Ideas This story details how a young fish gets a blue hat, and trouble soon follows him later with his hat. It is a simple children’s book that is easy to read, as well as enjoyable. The teacher can read the book aloud in front of the class, and when they understand the concept of the story, the teacher can organize them to reenact it in form of play, so that they understand it better. By doing this, the students will have fun in reading the book, as well as helping them develop their grammar and sentence structure. Week 5 The Girl who Loved Wild Horses-Children’s Picture Book Language for Interaction This story tells the story of a young girl who likes horses and wishes to go horseback riding. The story shows the quiet and simple life of the Native Americans and gives us an in-depth view of their way of life. The teacher should take time and slowly read the book to the students and help them to understand the story. After that, the teacher can engage the students in a discussion as they describe the life of Native Americans. The teacher then asks the student questions concerning horses and whether they are familiar with them. The teacher can then listen to the experiences of the students in their interaction with horses. Arrow to the Sun-Children’s Book Sound and Letter Knowledge This is a story about a boy who was born in the sun and looks for his father. He looks all over the earth and finally returns to the sun. In his stay there, he undergoes some tests to prove his worth. This story helps the reader understand a little more bout folklore, and as the teacher reads it out to the students, they get to understand a little more about traditional folklore. After reading the story to the class, the teacher will ask the students about what they know of folklore, and hear their various responses. After this, the teacher will engage in a discussion with the pupils as they talk about ancient Native Indian folklore and exchange ideas concerning this. The teacher can also ask the students to research more on any folk tales that they know of and get to hear their views concerning the same. This would help to give the students more understanding of this topic (Hunt, 2013). Ox Cart Man-Non-Fiction Book Expressing and Developing Ideas This book is another only constructed child story that is easy to understand and is meant to cater for the literature of young children. The teacher can lead the students in reading this book as they look into the life of the oxcart man and his occupation. After reading the book with the children, the teacher can engage the pupils in some practical thinking by asking them about their parents and their occupations. After this, the teacher can have a discussion with the students about different types of work. Lon Po-Older and Advanced Readers Language Variation and Change This is another easy to read children book that is interesting to know, has straightforward sentence structure, and it targets young children. It is the Chinese equivalent to the Little Red Riding Hood and occurs in English. The teacher can read the story to the students aloud, and after it, the teacher helps the students to analyze the book. The teacher can question the students on the comparison of the story with that of the little Red Riding Hood and get to exchange views with them over these two stories.
