Uncovered by Michael Ferrol - Essay Example

IntroductionThe play, “Uncovered” by Michael Ferrol and directed by Satyen Singh, caught my attention a lot among all the plays that I watched. I was greatly moved by the themes that were being portrayed in the play such as parenting, honesty and anger management.The title of the play is of great significance in the play. It suggests the overall emphasis of the author since the play is about the uncovering of deep issues that had all along remained secret. The major conflict that the protagonist faces who is the father of the boy is misunderstanding from the son.

The climax is witnessed when the son discloses to the father that he obtained the headphones from the mother. The conflict is resolved when the son gets to understand why the father had failed to disclose to him about the whereabouts of his mother. The plot is greatly unified and flowing. The story line in the play develops gradually from the conflict development, climax and finally the resolution. There are no subplots in the play and the scene is only one. In the play, the names of the characters are not disclosed apart from the son whom the father refers to as Mr. Johnson. The father’s action reveals someone who is very caring and concerned about his family.

He is very firm as evident by how he insists that the son tells him where he got the headphones. The son’s character is revealed as one who is very inquisitive and secretive. One of the values represented is taking care of the family no matter the situation. This is emphasized by the father who is determined to take good care of the family even in the absence of the mother. The society is totally against sexual abuse which lands the mother in prison. ConclusionThe play was in deed a well presented work of literature that aims at offering some key lessons to the society as well as inculcating family values.
