? Number] Analysis of Hamlet’s Speech Shakespeare’s renowned play ‘Hamlet’ has been popular for its discourse and central theme of ‘deception and revenge’. Hence, with the passage of time and even after the evolution of literature; Hamlet’s significance cannot be underestimated in the literary world. Hamlet, the prince of Denmark had spontaneous and valiant characteristics and in the play he has introduced psychological interpretation of actions via his reactions. His character is and was an enigma; as readers can comprehend his action and discourse according to their personal perspective and these interpretations fit exactly according to their analysis. Thus, his actions are interpreted from various diverse perceptions, but these interpretations are never erroneous due to the play’s veracity. In act 1 scene 4, Hamlet is in conversation with Horatio and Marcellus; the recent loss of his father and sudden re-marrying of his mother (Queen) with his uncle (Claudius) has left him in a state of uncertainty and mistrust. He is unable to acknowledge the true connotation of loyalty and thus, speaks to his companions in a poignant tone. Hamlet detests Queen’s quick marriage to Claudius and expresses his disapproval over the festivities held in the castle. According to the scene, the time is after twelve as Horatio and Marcellus confirms it; the presumed time for the ghost of the dead King to emerge. Though, it is not suggested by any of the character that the ghost of the King would appear, but Hamlet’s enquiring for time is enough to let the readers identify, that this is a thespian turn in the play. Furthermore, Hamlet is describing to his friends that how the tradition of the land (loud partying, dancing, signing) is proving the behaviour of his newlywed parents inappropriate, as these festivities are held in the castle of his late father . His analysis of the situation is noteworthy, that German wine, dancing and singing is a sign of joy, and if Claudius and Gertrude had an agreement to sustain Kinghood then it should have been simple and decent. The celebrations depict their union as a scheme to remove the late Kind King and make Claudius the new emperor. Hence, it’s a petty representation of the rulers of the land and it leaves Danish nation with no respect for their leaders. Hamlet is a young pessimistic and suspicious man who does not believe in the sudden natural death of Old King Hamlet. Hence, he is in the state of mourning, which he expects from his mother as well. She on the other hand, remarries which depicts that her sincerities were never with the King. Hamlet is also a prudent young chap, who cannot love his own mother now as she has betrayed his father and can do the same with him. Thus, he is lonely and wiser than ever before and at this stage he waits for an indication, a message to act further in any certain direction. This message or signal can decide his future and destiny. In Act 3 scene 4, one can observe rebellion, antagonism and mistrust in Hamlet’s tenor whilst he converses with his mother. Queen Gertrude has been informed and instructed to question his prank, which was disapproved by Claudius. On the other hand, Hamlet is on the brink of madness and he looks for the right opportunity to seek revenge. Moreover, He knows the truth, the ghost of late king has informed him how he was murdered, but Hamlet does not want to believe it. As he assumed the appearance of ghost his delusion due to his rejection of Claudius and Queen Gertrude marriage. Therefore, he avoided to believe the appearance of the ghost and his message to him. Simultaneously, he wants to believe the anecdote of the ghost to move in a certain direction because his heart is full of rage and revenge is followed by it. Thus, if he did not act upon the advice of the ghost; he might commit suicide himself to impede the mental torment his mother imposed on him. Hamlet adapts a curt tone when Queen enquires her about his conducts with his step father. Hamlet is not hesitant or hiding his loath for the Queen and Claudius; instead he asks her bluntly why she has chosen a shallow character man like Claudius, whilst she promised to stay loyal with his father the late King. Queen is stunned and perplexed on such direct questioning and tries to change the subject and instead shows concern towards his disrespectful tenor, but Hamlet is resolute and definite about her treachery and adultery. He explicitly states the truth and is mortified to be his son, as sons do inherit some trait of their mothers, which he wishes he could alter or resist. Gertrude had an intension to make Hamlet realize that his foolishness and disrespect is increasing and he needs to cease it in order to survive, but Hamlet had a different opinion and he comes forth to share his piece of mind with her. Conclusively, this melancholic young prince can never be happy unless he seeks revenge. He has portrayed via his actions that how children of spontaneous mother or father retort or suffer. Thus, his imagination led him to believe that his dead parent seeks revenge and his wife was disloyal to him. Therefore, he needs to assassinate his step father; to satisfy his late father’s agitated soul. In Act 3 scene 2, Hamlet is involved in the act of directing his play for the new King Claudius and Queen Gertrude. He is a young passionate wrathful man who wants to portray his disapproval and sound intellectuality in-front of his new parents. He wants to demonstrate to the world that he can comprehend the sham actions of adults precisely. Throughout, the play his revenge has taken different course of actions from verbal accusation to pessimistic body gestures, and now he has staged a play for the new King and Queen to witness their deceptive actions via theatrical presentation. In the due process he is teaching his actors to act in the most realistic way to leave the intended note ‘trickery and unfaithfulness of trusted ones’ on the spectators. His instructions are mature and depict that he has a good sense of associating actions through efficient verbal discourse. His efficacy of communication is demonstrated throughout the play, where he speaks to silence the listener in most rational manner simultaneously; he is teaching his actors to do the same. In this way, the discourse will be most effectual and will make the audience a part of his play (Shakespeare). Although, Hamlet is a young chap, but the course of actions his life took have made him bitter grim about trust and loyalty. Hence, he has put forth the question of confidence and insecurity of children, when one of the adult parent deceives the other in any way. Hamlet has depicted how these children face inner torment and pessimistic sentiments most of the time and their internal quarrel of unjust action makes them cynical about their own life.
