Introduction
With the rise of technological innovation in the information era, crimes against humanity have also continued to be on an upward trend causing jitters across the globe. In recent times, globalization has brought about crimes such as human trafficking and smuggling that have had adverse effects on not only the host countries but also on transit and final destination countries.
Globalization and Human Trafficking and Smuggling
Globalization is a concept that cuts across the economic, social and political spheres of public influence with each deriving its own definition of the diverse concept. Sociologists (Boudreaux 2008:1) assert that globalization is a process of interaction and integration of people from different nations who are bound by simply migration routes and technological innovations. In this sense, globalization breaks the technical, political and territorial barriers that hinder human cohesiveness and interactivity.
From a social perspective, individuals with ease interact with their friends and foes across the globe mostly as a result of convergence brought about by technological innovations such as the internet. For example, through social networking sites on the internet such as Facebook, and Twitter among others, individuals have been conned, and met new friends among other activities. In light of this, the world has been literacy crashed to a village. For instance, numerous individuals have become prey to strangers’ disguising themselves as prospective employers and as a result, lost a substantial amount of money in the dubious deals.
Globalization, therefore; propagates the assimilation of cultures across the world through advocacy in domestic and foreign tourism. In a social context, globalization has amicably addressed the need for cohesive and united nations. For example, through globalization, individuals are accustomed to new cultures that promote interactivity leading to social development.
