Overview of Globalization of Crime According to studies so far conducted, contend organized crimes are a threat not only in the US but also all over the world. The current century has been marred by a new generation of mafias who pose a threat to numerous states’ economies. This is because it is through such gangs that illicit goods move from one continent to another and marketed in the third nation (UNODC 6). Through crime, states are having difficulties when it comes to government management.

For instance, apart from increase in the rates of corruption, crime has also brought along other problems such as development hindering as well as business infiltrations (UNODC 6). Such problems tend to undermine a nation’s governance procedures for they empower persons operating outside the law. There are numerous criminal activities in action around the globe on a daily basis. Apart from cybercrime, which is the recently discovered, other types of crime evident embrace money-laundering, piracy, drug cartels in addition to smuggling of immigrants and shipping of counterfeit goods around continents (UNODC 10).

All these kinds have detrimental effects when it comes to the stability of a given state. For instance, apart from stealing identities as well as committing fraud, cybercrime also threatens infrastructures in addition to the security of a state (UNODC 12). Similarly, piracy also destabilizes a nation’s economy; this is because pirates capture cargo ships from rich nations before asking for large amounts of money in form of ransom. Although governments globally share a common objective, which is combating crime, methods employed vary.

For instance, the US established the department of homeland security to oversee that there is minimal crime in the nation. The department ensures security of the nation by working closely with other security bodies such as local law enforcements. Through such bodies, nations are in a position to not only combat terrorism but also other crimes such as cyber attacks as well as human trafficking (Oakes).
