Katherine Fernandez Rundle - Political Style Katherine Fernandez Rundle - Political Style This essay is aimed at describing the political style adopted by the State Attorney of Miami, Florida. Current state attorney of Miami is Katherine Fernandez Rundle. She was elected in 1993 and since then has been reelected 5 times (Cuban American Bar Association, 2011). Prosecutors adopt political styles because of the broad discretion that they exercise. There are three types of political styles that they choose: Office Conservator “Office Conservator” is a style where the prosecutors are happy with the status of the office.
They retain majority of past employees and do not initiate change. Changes are mainly in response to request made by others(Neubauer & Fradella, 2010). Courthouse Insurgent “Courthouse Insurgent” is a political style where in the prosecutor is not satisfied with status quo and is ready to take drastic measures to bring in a change. The prosecutor is very aggressive in approach(Neubauer & Fradella, 2010). Policy Reformers “Policy Reformers” are also not satisfied with the status quo but they are approach is very different from courthouse insurgent.
They are more cautious in their approach. They often come with innovative ways to bring in a change and also take initiative (Neubauer & Fradella, 2010). Katherine Fernandez Rundle has adopted the “policy reformer” style. She has not been very aggressive and also not waited for external factors to initiate the change. She has taken the initiative and come with innovative changes to bring in change. She has been crucial in introducing many new programs for the welfare of the community. She has also been able raise funds for many projects like Hurricane Fraud task Force from the Florida Legislature.
There has been a tremendous decrease in crime reports during her tenure. She has set up many units to fight corruption and other anti-society activities (State Attorney’s Office, 2004).
