Article Review: Are Different Patterns of Communication in Men and Women are innately Determined? Introduction: The difference in the behavioral pattern of men and women is always a point of interest for the researchers. There are several studies conducted on this issue and the results always strengthen the opinion that there are great differences in the behaviors, language, spoken style, way of expression, and ways of reactions towards any situation. It is a very common observation that there is always a difference in the behavior of men and women. Both of them will react differently towards a same situation. This is not shaped in this world rather these differences are naturally present in human beings. In this research study we will further analyze the theory of presence of differences in both genders regarding their behaviors. Main Body: According to psychologists point of view the study of differences in the men and women behavior is very important because it may help to develop these behavioral models which could help in the behavioral studies. Language is always basic tool or we can say the building block in the construction of the attitude and behavior of any individual. The selection of words, style of spoken language and the expressions matter a lot when we are conversing with any other person. But we may witness contradictions in the language use while comparing males and females. Even the use of language is different in both genders regarding the selection and ways of spoken words (Handelmen et. al., 2008). For example, we may witness a difference in the behavior of a sales man and a sales girl when any person inquire about a product and ask question in detail. Most of the time emotions are the reason of a women’s specific behavior while actions always inspire men (Sherwood, 2012). In other words we can also say that women always want a long discussion whereas men are always satisfied with the work, actions, tasks and activities completion without wasting time on long hours of discussion. For example, we can see in the waiting area of any office, unlike men women are always busy in talks. Men usually make connections with those with whom their activities are matched, on the other hand women like to connect with those, whose talk or conversation is settled with her. There is always a different in the voice tone and speed of talk between men and women (Goldsmith, 2010). An interesting research study states that women can feel and think at a time while male cannot do this. There might be several reasons behind this behavior but in my opinion because of being emotional a women can enjoy both activities at a time. Emotions are always a neglected part for the male persons but this cannot be true in 100 percent cases. There are some examples when males are emotional towards any situation in their life but generally speaking male are emotionless persons. On the basis of this emotional side sometimes a women may take any false decision and then she may have to bear it in the future. As compare to women, men are always on safe side because they are not impressed by any emotional story and thus they will take a logical and true decision and thus may not suffer any loss or disadvantage in the future. A liar person can impress her female boss by telling a wrong heart touching story easily. This difference in the behaviors and the attitudes may cause problems for the couples in many situations. The husband and wife may not understand each other though they are communicating with each other. But the message or the content of the communication is not reaching the other partner. This adverse situation creates problems and the couple may not adjust with each other. Usually the reason behind these problems is the conversational difference between the male and female counterpart. Apart from married life, research study shows that females are more competitive as compare to men when they are grouped with any other men. The men may want to become superior by winning the situation over women and thus they act wisely in taking decisions. And thus the game may end up in a supportive result for the male partner. A female opponent is usually more viable as compare to males (Gerdes & Gransmark, 2010). But many authors are of the same opinion that though there are differences in the communication pattern of both genders but they should respect these differences and thus the problems may get solved which are arising in the couples because of miscommunication. Another research study shows that usually men are more directive in their speech as compare to the females (Haas, 1979). The reason might be that women always want to involve more in talks and discussions whereas men always remain to the point in their conversation. An interesting statistical survey give results that on an average a women speaks 20,000 words in a single day as compare to a man who speaks only 7000 words per day. Almost 99% of the human brain is similar for both males and females; the only difference of 1% is creating all the apparent differences which we witness in the males and females. It is famous that a woman may take 15 minutes to tell a small issue but a man can explain it within two minutes. Science proves that both female and male brains are composed of similar patterns. All the sense organs are organized in the same way but only difference may occur in the use of those senses and thus the accomplishment may differ from each other. The stimuli are same for both females and males but their reactions may differ just because of the difference in the thinking patterns. It has also been proved scientifically that up to eight months after baby birth the human brain looks like a female brain after that period there come changes in the structure of male brain. It means that God has made default setting of female brain for all the human brains. Different scholars are of the opinion that this difference of behavioral pattern may depend on the social relation to whom we are communicating. We can also name it as the social identity of the human beings. The people may perceive other to be divided into certain classes on the basis of their social identity and thus change behavior as per their own perception. In most of the cases when we are communicating with any other person who is also unknown to us, we are taking him inferior and also getting us superior on him or her. This attitude may also affect our behavior or the expressions towards others. Therefore researchers have defined the term of social identity as the division of society or the people into different social groups and classes on the basis of the relationship with them and then behave accordingly with them. The process of socialization is also related to making relations with others. The process of socializations is also based on human perception about others. This human perception is self created and no force play its role in the formation of this perceived image. The communication based on social identity is not confine to male or female only. Any male or female can give importance to social classes and then behave accordingly. When we talk about behavioral patterns then the differences in the forms and the styles of communicating language is also very important to discuss. The use of male pronouns is commonly considered as a neutral one; for both males and females. This may create a type of gender biasness in the society. It is also a very common practice that in the general writings usually the male pronouns are written first and then after that there come the female ones. This language use clearly depicts that even in normal use a male word is preferred over a female one. These little considerations matter a lot when we talk about the behavioral pattern differences of males and females. Conclusion: The difference in the behavioral pattern of both genders male and female is important to be discussed. Though there are similarities but the ratio of differences is greater than that when we talk about attitude and behaviors of males and females. We may say that females are more emotional as compare to males then there might be some rule of nature designed behind this behavior. The flexibility which is present in any woman’s nature is always a source of relaxation for handling the tough and harder situations. We must not say that being emotional women always affected by the situations. They even can handle the situation in a better way as compare to men. In short words we can say that a midway can be traced in order to settle down these behavioral differences and thus overcome the problems and the contradictions in a healthier way. Either talking about men or women, these attitudes and behaviors are also dependent on the socialization process. Usually we make perceived images of others in our minds and then behaving with them accordingly. Reference: Gerdes, C., Gransmark, P. (2010).
