Extract of sample "Nonverbal Communication in Uncomfortable Situation"

Nonverbal communications constitute an important aspect and technique of communication. Nonverbal communications pass unspoken messages that tend to be concrete and likely to have a long-lasting impact on the content and nature of a given message. The magnitude of message or information conveyed through nonverbal communication is usually big and people need to be careful with the kinds of nonverbal techniques used. When in an uncomfortable situation, nonverbal communications such as moody facial expression, disturbed posture, and confused use of gestures, indirect facial contact and unregulated body movements tend to dominate (Ungar, 2011).

In counseling, the above listed nonverbal communication may occur or dominate interaction when a client fails to corporate as expected. The uncomfortable situation during counseling may develop when a counselor struggles unsuccessfully to make a client open up, speak about their real problems, and perhaps express their opinions about their expectation and structure of counseling. Such occurrence may cause disappointment and loss of focus by a counselor who begins to use unstructured and confusing gestures in an attempt to convince a client (Ungar, 2011).

When caught in the situation, a counselor may also change and depict moody facial expression that may confirm disappointment.
