The researchers have explored the level and understanding of nonverbal communication in casual dating, long term relationship, exclusively dating, cohabitation, and marriage.

The researchers have studied the differences in nonverbal communication for romantic relationships considering the intensity of communication for both genders in each of the above-mentioned five relationship stages. Through the research, it was found that both language and nonverbal communication are equally important for romantic relationships. However, the nature of nonverbal relationships changes with the passage of time for both genders. Women tend to be more inclined towards nonverbal cues in relationships as compared to men.

The researchers studied the responses of 145 participants and found women to be more relationship-oriented than their male counterparts.
