Topic and Description 1.1 Name Azez The Wonder Boy 1.2 Description Azez the Wonder Boy is a website about Azez. The website shall aim to cover his major achievements and endeavors, his childhood and upbringing and His future aspirations and intentions. The site shall also have a blog for Azez’s fan base to follow him and keep find out about his endeavors. The website shall be called Azez the Wonder Boy. The URL of the website has not yet been decided on and the domain shall be booked as soon as consultations with the client are completed. The purpose of this document is to guide the building of the website Azez the wonder boy. 1.2.1 About the client Azez the Wonder Boy is a completely egocentric yet very likeable individual. He has an almost average lifestyle but with a few high lights which he blows out of proportion and manages to convince most people that his achievements are bigger than they actually are. He volunteers to serve in a few charities and has got a few small accolades and recognitions but in true characteristic fashion he completely blows these out of proportion. He also likes to play squash and exercise regularly. The website shall cover these aspects of Azez’s life. 2. Target Audience 2.1 Age This site is targeted towards individuals between the ages of 17 to 27. 2.2 Gender This site targets people of both genders in the age bracket mentioned above. 2.3 Justification The above target audience is selected primarily because they are the target audience that would most likely identify with Azez. This age group is more likely to be fixated on Azez because Azez could easily convince them he is everything they want to be. For male fans relate with him as a role model and someone they aspire to be. This angle also appeals to some of his female fans but for the female fans Azez also presents himself as a likely suitor and thus appeals to them. 3. Competitive analysis 3.1 Analysis of good sites The good sites that would have the same target audiences would be: 1. http://mryoungscholar.com/ 2. http://aidworker.blogspot.com/ 3. http://afromusing.com/ These sites were selected because they would mainly appeal to more or less same target audience as Azez the Boy Wonder would. They are all about young people doing life the best they can. They serve as an inspiration and at the same time are a source of information. They are also done by young people who list their musings and tend to take a somewhat casual tone in their content. They are selected for the high traffic they maintain to their sites judging by their twitter followers. All of these sites have some weaknesses as will be described below. Their strengths however are: They all have a large amount of content. This means the visitors cannot just visit once and cover the whole site. This will encourage return visits. The content on these sites is updated regularly. This could be as regularly as several times a day like for the first site (mryoungscholar.com). The sites also have many pictures which allow a user to decide immediately if they want to read the whole story or just move to the next page. Afromusings.com also has a nice navigation structure. It has many relevant links on the side bar making navigation intuitive and straight forward. It also has a bread crumbs links structure that make navigation to previous story easy. Even though this site did not bother to modify the default Wordpress theme it’s still a successful site thanks to the combination of fresh and relevant content, pictures and a simple navigation structure. 3.2 Analysis of bad sites The following sites were selected for analysis of things to avoid. 1. http://theadventuresofboywonder.blogspot.com/ 2. http://chaseboys.blogspot.com/ 3. http://thiskenyanlife.com/pages/about-the-project These sites also had the same target as the sites above and cover almost similar subject matter. They also enjoy some relative success but however do not do as well as the sites in the first analysis. Possible reasons for their smaller successes could be: In the second site (chaseboys.blogspo.com) the content tends to be words and hard to read. It makes the site less desirable to read unless you have already been following the site long enough and have vested interest in the content of the site. The second site (thiskenyanlife.com) is hard to navigate. The links are not well marked out at the top of the pages or to the left in a side bar. The links are mainly in the middle of the page juxtaposed right in the content. This makes it hard to navigate intuitively and go backwards in pages that have a sort of “cascading” lay out. The content in all the three above mentioned site is not appealing. The images look like they still needed some post processing before they were put up on the website. Some of them look like they were take using a low resolution camera with bad photography angles. 4 . Content Requirements 4.1. Content Inventory Most of the pictures of the client have not yet been delivered. The client has however informed the team that the pictures shall be availed and will mainly detail Azez in activities relating to the blog. Azez also has no videos of him but will select from Youtube that shall be embedded in the website to serve the clients ends. 4.2 Categories and labels The site shall have four main categories. 1. Blogs 2. Musings and observations 3. Recommendations 4. About Azez The blog shall be further subdivided into three cartegories: Charities and initiatives Future plans Musings and observations These pages shall list latest blog posts in their category the header of the image shall be hyperlinks and will lead to the individual story. 5.Information Architecture 5.1 Site Map 5.2 Wire frames Figure 1Home page and individual blog post wire frame Figure 2 About Azez wire frame Figure 3 Gallery wire frame 6. Navigation Schemes 6.1 Global Navigation The main site’s navigation shall be at the top of the page the links shall be obvious to see with roll overs or changes on mouse over events to make them more prominent. 6.2 Local Navigation Navigation within the pages shall be on the side bar and shall have a bread crumb structure at the top of every page to help ease navigation. The bread crumb structure shall be implemented using server side technology either PHP or ASP. 6.3 Footer Navigation Footer navigation shall be the same in all pages it shall have links to the developers page, FAQ and Terms and Conditions page. 7. Content Design 7.1 Content Layout For the four main pages of the content shall be displayed in the hierarchy of webpages as displayed in the site map above. Their page templates shall be as listed below. Page Template Content Home page Homepage A welcome message from Azez and latest content from the blogs. About Azez About Azez A concise history of Azez Recommendations About Azez Links and descriptions to external pages Azez likes Gallery Gallery Pictures that Azez would like to share Blog About Azez A list of the latest blog posts by Azez Charities and initiatives. About Azez A list of blogs by Azez in this category Musings and observations About Azez A list of blogs by Azez in this category Future Plans About Azez A list of blogs by Azez in this category Stories as the come in from Azez Home Page These pages shall be individual articles they shall have bread crumb navigation to allow the user to go back in the hierarchy of pages. There shall be relevant links in the side bar to related content They shall have a banner image and if none is provided a default banner image or slide show shall be used. 8. Visual Designs 8.1 Description and Justification of Design The design is made to be neat and easy to navigate. Pages with individual page should be clean with a two pane design, a main pane with the content of the article and a side bar with related links. Pages with individual articles shall also have a large descriptive banner and when one is not available there shall be a default banner that sums up Azez as a character. There will also be a gallery page that shall have a neatly laid out grid of images that shall be select images by Azez. The design is selected so it’s intuitive to navigate and allows content to be neatly laid out so that anyone trying to find content can locate it in the shortest time possible. 8.2 Color Scheme and fonts The colour scheme shall be blue and white. The selected shades of blue shall are: #CCFFFF for the background #3366FF for heading pane backgrounds #33CCFF to highlight important information A gradient from #33DDFF to #3366FF for back grounds The fonts selected shall be sans serif fonts to make the content easier to read and allow the designer to use small fonts so the site is more legible even with smaller fonts. 9. Appendix 9.1 Raw data collection Azez as our client is yet to provide the raw data to be used but is compiling the content for all the pages. He shall also provide images that will be used in the design. 9.2 References All content in the recommendations page shall belong to the individual owners and Azez makes no claim to the articles, videos, sound or images provided in the linked sites.
