Using Microsoft Word to format and edit text and pages of documents To edit document, it is necessary to: Identify the text to change. Making the change, the four types of changes in a document: addition of text deletion of text copying of text moving of text Changing style applied to text Changing formatting of text Identifying the text to affect To make a change to existing text (format, delete, and move), identify the text to be affected. Select the text. After selection, word automatically highlights. Highlighting is done by positioning the cursor at start point then selecting all the targeted section. Five ways to position the cursor are 1. Click using the mouse. 2. Using the arrow keys Ways to select text Position the cursor by using any of the methods mentioned above. Then: 1. Holding down the Shift key. Clicking where the selection ends 2. Holding down the Shift key, using any of the methods mentioned above to navigate the cursor to creating a selection. 3. Double-click selecting a single word 4. Triple-clicking selecting a sentence 5. Ctrl-a to selects the entire document. Add text To add text in a document, involve the mouse or keyboard to position the pointer where the addition of text is intended, then typing. If some text is selected, typing over-writes the selected section of text. Deleting text Click or involve the keyboard arrows to position the pointer of cursor. Pressing the Delete key deletes the character or letters in front of cursor. Pressing the Backspace key, deletes the characters behind cursor. To delete an entire document, select the entire document and press the backspace or Delete key. Copying text from one place to another Select the target text Right click and select copy Use the keyboard or the mouse to place the cursor in the right position Hold control and character V on the keyboard at the same time to paste Moving text from one place To move text: Select the text to move. Right click and choose cut Position the cursor at intended position Press control + V buttons to paste To move a paragraph down or up in the document, select the targeted paragraph. Use Alt+Shift and up Arrow in order to move up the text. Use Alt-Shift and Down Arrow in order to move down the text. This works for rows in tables, too. Changing the style applied to text Change formatting To adjust the formatting of some few words, or to adjust the formatting of an entire paragraph distinctly from its style: Select the text that is to be to be formatted.
