Summary of the articles Summary of the two articles given below Organisational Culture: An Exploratory Study Comparing Faculties Perspectives Within Public and Private Universities in Malysia” 2.“Extending the Scope of Organisational Culture:The External Perception of an Internal Phenomenon” “Organisational Culture: An Exploratory Study Comparing Faculties Perspectives Within Public and Private Universities in Malysia” The journal titled “Organisational Culture: An Exploratory Study Comparing Faculties Perspectives Within Public and Private Universities in Malysia” was written exclusively by Ramachandran based on an in-depth study conducted pertaining to the significance of organisational culture. The research was executed to establish how culture affect learning by creating an avenue for cross learning in the institutions of higher education. The overriding theme of the article is the need for the adoption of positive cultural practices that holds the capacity of fostering integration of students in both public and private schools with the aim of improving their interactive levels. This is derived from the purpose of the research that was to study the concept of organisational culture in the context of four parameters of culture that include clan, adhocracy, hierarchical and market in the public and private education institutions. It was meant to establish the existing differences between the two institutions interims of cultural practices from a faculty member’s perspective. From the findings, it is clear that the OC affects progress, performance and interaction among students in schools and between private and public learning institutions. This occurs since the two category of organisations have divergent norms and ways of operations. For instance, the recruitment hierarchy of students is different in private and public institutions; there are differences in gender balance, economic restructuring, adhocracy, use of technology, and adoption of new changes. Private institutions have more streamlined cultural practices as compared to public institutions. Students in the private schools are disciplined, hardworking, industrious, caring and quality time managers. Their teachers and other concerned parties under a hierarchical system of operation as opposed to public schools keep them in close check. This opens the cultural gap that causes a huge interaction line despite the fact that the institutions work for a common purpose of enhancing knowledge and brain development among students. The research established that clan perceptions, school hierarchy in terms of performance and reputation, and the calibre of students depending on the environment they come from leads to the current disparities between public and private schools. They have varied cultural practices that must be integrated for meaningful growth in n the sector of education. According to the study, education is vital in sharpening the minds of young individuals towards making them worthy persons and every effort has to be made to ensure that good values are inculcated in them. The role of both public and private learning institutions is recognised in Malaysia and the need for their synchronisation has been flouted .“Extending the Scope of Organisational Culture:The External Perception of an Internal Phenomenon” On the other hand the article titled “Extending the Scope of Organisational Culture:The External Perception of an Internal Phenomenon”, focuses on the role of culture in workplaces and how it influences performance. Its major purpose was to examine the existing perception (external and internal) pertaining to the organizational culture in a company operating in the Canadian fitness sector. The overriding theme was to establish the imperativeness of organization culture in shaping performance, employee productivity and social levels. The study was to examine in detail the perspectives of clients of the company on the phenomenon of culture and establish the association between the perception of customers regarding the organisational culture and satisfaction. In understanding the aspects, the customers wanted to have credible reasons for decision-making on whether to continue or withdraw from the fitness company. According to the findings, it is evident that cultural practices influences the market and performance on an institution. The market responds to the organizational services when satisfaction is eminent and when their guarantee of success or growth. The methodology used Both studies adopted effective and reliable research methodologies that enabled the realisation of informative findings. In the first article, the researcher adopted the use of purposive research methodology based on the judgement of its appropriateness of driving the study whose purpose was to establish the impact of Organisational culture among students of public and private institutions of higher learning. Sampling was effectively done and a sample size of 594 persons was selected for the study (Ramachandran, 2010, 158). The sample size was divided into two strata where public schools had their own strata and private schools had separate strata. The sample size comprised the whole population of the staff who were presented with pertinent questions based on the researchers’ view of their appropriateness in giving relevant answers. Questionnaires were used to collect information that were administered after receipt and analysed. However, the second study, adopted the use of a qualitative research technique that enabled random selection of the participants. Respondents were sampled randomly among clients in different clubs in Ontario based on the researchers’ judgment on their appropriateness in giving quality information. Data collection was executed using questionnaires and interviewing of the respondents picked. The data collected was administered for consistency and analysed using relevant tools. Main conclusions The study on organisational culture relating to the school environment has advanced knowledge on how performance and interaction can be enhanced between private and public schools despite the existing difference in OC types. It is clear that both public and private schools can learn great things interchangeably and share experiences with respect diverse OC aspects. This can be achieved through systematic reduction of hierarchical structures, cultural practices, enhancement of clan issues and market cultures. The results indicates that private institutions should find it necessary to develop clan, adhocracy including market cultures to enable them provide holistic education in addition to their hierarchical cultures. In the second article, it was concluded that there is a great correlation between the clients’ perception of cultural practices and satisfaction. The cultural practices adopted in institutions influence decision-making process of clients on whether to continue buying particular services in accompany or withdraw. Secondly, organisational culture is established as a vital tool that institutions with strong aspirations to recording good performance should adopt. It extends beyond institutional boundaries as it determines the link between internal and external stakeholders. The similarities and differences Indeed, the two articles are similar since they focus on organisational culture as the overriding theme. They both provides information on the significance of organisational culture and it role in institutions in the present day. The article by Ramachandran (2010, 624), dug in on how cultural practices can be used to improve integration in the education sector between public and private institutions of higher learning. It also focused on establishing how cultural practices influence performance in the institutions and the steps that can be taken for them to be holistic in their approach towards students nurturing. On the other hand, the article by Doherty & Maclntosh (2007) focused on establishing the influence of culture on client decision-making process including the relationship between culture and their satisfaction. The key differences between the articles is in their core objectives and study lines. The first difference is that the first article focused its study on the institutions of higher learning where public and private institutions were adopted. While the second article focuses on organizational culture from the context of a company. The first article focused on how culture or cultural practices can influence integration, and social harmony between private and public school students. It also touched on the differences between the schools where discipline levels, time management, degree of responsiveness to issues, clan perceptions, recruitment of students were highlighted as some of the areas of cultural difference s. On the other hand, the second article focuses on the association of clients’ perception of whether they are getting value for their resources. It focused on establishing whether the set organisational culture practices help in satisfying their needs as expected.
