To Spy or Not To Spy To Spy or Not To Spy 5.7 Concluding Comments Summarizes Major Issues/Problems The company has a new CEO and the new CEO has come up with new ideas of improving the performance of the company by installing spyware devices throughout the organization that will monitor the performance and output of workers while at their workstations. However, there is a fallout within the executive management, as well as the board of directors as the other managers and directors do not buy the idea proposed by the new CEO.

Furthermore, the employees are against this decision too, as it instills fear and doubt amongst them especially coming from the management of the organization. The CEO advocates for the spyware software because he thinks it will enable the management to monitor all the activities of the employees while at work, and in turn, improve their productivity and efficiency while discharging their duties and responsibilities. However, the other members of the management and board are against this move because it is an outright proof to the employees that the management does not have any trust and confidence in their work.

As such, there are fears that this move will reduce the output of employees rather than improving it as even the employees are against the infringement of their privacy through unnecessary spying by the management while at work. They rather advocate for evaluation and appraisal of the output of employees as opposed to their production process as the latter affects their productivity. Summarizes Recommendation The management comes to an agreement to reduce the scope of monitoring and spying on employees while at work.

This at least brings about some form of understanding between the members of the board of directors and executive management. In addition, this move instills more confidence among the employees who feel that the organization trusts them a little more by not monitoring all the moves and activities that they undertake while at their workplace Reasoning For Acting on the Action Plan The reason why the management and the board of directors settled on the second option of reducing the rate of spying the employees was majorly that this agreement would bring about some form of understanding between the top decision makers of the company.

If the CEO were to go ahead and implement his proposition against the wills and desires of the other members of the board and management team, he would receive maximum resistance, which in turn would erode the desired effects of the planned move. In addition, this would also create tension within the institution, which is not good for the normal operations of the company to ensure maximum productivity. Therefore, the decision taken by the management to tone down on the spying and monitoring of employees while at their workplace is instrumental in improving the overall performance of the company.

Positive The positive effects of this decision are the fact that it empowers the employees with trust and confidence form the management team of the company. This is because they can now go about their daily business at the company without fear of unnecessary spying and monitoring from the management. Working while knowing there is a hidden “eye” secretly monitoring every activity you do make one paranoid and anxious in such a way that he or she ends up underperforming due to lack of confidence.

Call to Action The best action by the organization is to reduce completely the rate or the level of spying its workers ass this makes the workers jittery while discharging their duties. In addition, the company equally earns the trust and confidence of its workers when it decides to reduce on the spying and monitoring activities, as employees feel safe while working at the company. Ending Spying on employees or monitoring them is not the best way to improve their performance at the organization.

In fact, this demoralizes them, and makes them feel not trusted by the company. Some of them become too jittery that they fail to produce to their maximum levels at the organization.
