College 09 December Self-assessment Aptitude being Manager My ability to be a manager is average. My score for conceptual and human skills are both 21 while my technical sills score was 14. I therefore need to improve in each of the aspects for better management capacity. The results suggest that I may not be an effective manager and I therefore need to improve in every management aspect before assuming a management role. Guiding Ethical PrincipleThe results show a moderate approach orientation and are consistent with my experience.
The scores were nine for justice approach, 10 for moral-rights approach, 11 for individual approach, and eight for utilitarian approach, all being moderate values. This also requires all round improvements. A fair ethical guiding principle is not adequate for human resource management in which decisions, actions are interpreted from psychological and ethical perspectives, and this means improvement is a necessity. Becoming a global ManagerI have a moderate potential for success in managing in a global environment.
This suggests average capacity in general intelligence, business knowledge, interpersonal skills, commitment, courage, cross cultural competencies, and ability to learn from experience. Becoming a competent human resource management in a global setup, especially with the contemporary global environment therefore requires improvements in all of the aspects. Decision Making StyleMy style is directive style and even though it might be appropriate for management roles, it is not suitable for leadership.
I believe analytical and behavioural decision-making styles are suitable for the effective charismatic and transformations leadership styles. Managers often assume leadership roles and I believe a decision making model that is more analytical or behavioural is necessary.Desire for PerformanceMy desire for performance is high, having scored 38. This suggests high level of motivation that is necessary to driving organizational objectives. The scores are encouraging but not the best. I therefore need to improve on my motivation for greater achievements.
AdaptabilityMy sore are also high and this means ability to operate in different environments. Within the high range however, my score was the lowest and this means need for improvement in aspects such as reaction to emergencies and adjusting to changes. The high-level adaptability implies by ability to work in different environments and in dynamic environments. Emotional IntelligenceMy score of 66 on emotional intelligence is commendable. The notion that emotional intelligence is developed means that I can improve and strategies such as mentorship and trainings will help.
Emotional intelligence competence is necessary for identification of emotional strengths and weaknesses for support initiatives and establishes by capacity to ensure employees’ emotional stability. Conflict Management StyleCollaboration is my primary conflict management style and I believe it is the best because of involved honesty. Collaboration and forcing are my secondary styles and situational application means that I can manage conflict effectively. Conflict is a common thing in human resource management and I am able to handle it.
Communication Learning StyleKinesthetic is my best communication style. It is however not suitable to real life communication set ups and visual communication style is necessary. Non-verbal communication is significant in the work environment and developing visual communication will improve my communication. Time Management SkillsMy time management skills are good. I scored six in the test and this shows that improvement is possible. Excellent time management skills are necessary for controlling subordinates and for leading people.
ConclusionAssessment results reveal my competence in desire for performance, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and conflict management. I am however not yet perfect in the areas and improvements are still needed. I am however, average in the other aspects that are assessed and serious measures for improvements are needed. Mentorship, trainings and seminars will help in the improvements. The skills are important to management because they empower a manager to understand subordinates’ needs, to meet the needs, and to influence subordinates towards an organization’s objectives.
