A Coach A coach is a manager or a peer who works to ensure that an employee is motivated, develops the skills required towork in the organization, and one who ensures that the employee has feedback and reinforcement when required. The managers who function as coaches realize high performance because the employees respond through high productivity. This implies that organizations should use coaching as a strategy to foster high productivity in the organization.
In my experience, I have seen a supervisor functioning as a coach. While most managers are role models and good coaches, the supervisor that I saw was a bad example. This is because most of his behaviours were contrary to how a coach should be. The coach should be available for the function of reinforcement, provide feedback to the employees with respect to their performance and motivate them. Instead, the supervisor was rarely available to act as reinforcement and feedback was provided rarely.
My goal in future is to ensure that I function as a coach who understands the importance of coaching and the aspects involved that include feedback and motivating. This will ensure that I become a better leader in the organization. The time frame for submitting feedback to the employees would be the shortest possible because they like keeping track of their performance so that they can improve in the areas that are proven wanting. Success would be measured through comparing present and previous employee performances. If anticipated outcomes are realized, then the practice is maintained. If otherwise, additional strategies are applied until the expected results are realized. Read More
