Relationship between health & lifestyle and Health & safety Health has been a vital aspect of concern to many individuals and society. The reason is that individual want to have a health life. However, many people have failed to know of ways they can ensure they have a healthy life. Some have failed to establish that there is a link between lifestyle and safety on health. Lifestyle may affect the individual health in significant ways. Lifestyle may include eating habits, drinking habits, physical activities, behaviours. A good habit in any of the aspect affects health in a positive way while an unhealthy habit affects individual health in a negative way. For example, many health problems such as heart diseases, obesity, cancer, and addictions arise due to poor lifestyles (Ministry of Health 1). Moreover, some form of the condition may affect individual lifestyle. Furthermore, a health lifestyle acts as an impetus for exceptional health. On the other hand, health affects the safety in various ways. A perfect health may mean an increased safety in the work environment while a substandard health means poor safety. Consequently, a safe environment makes it possible to have a beneficial health while insecure environment may mean poor health. A reflection on interaction between health and lifestyle and health and safety helps in highlighting influence on health and lifestyle. There is strong evidence on the link between health and lifestyle. First, level of exercise determines an individual health in various ways. Regular exercise helps in improving individual health (Ministry of Health 1). The exercise may be in terms of walking for a certain time, lifting objects, or running. Such form of exercise makes body active and leads to increased circulation of blood, burning of calories, and removal of toxic products from the body (ThinkQuest 1). Exercise has been shown as an important tool in preventing the advent of heart diseases (ThinkQuest 1). There is increased chance of getting heart diseases to individuals that do not exercise regularly. Moreover, exercise helps in relieving pressure on the brain (Ministry of Health 1). As a result, individuals that exercise help in reducing chances of suffering from depression and anxiety (Ministry of Health 1). The other relationship is on food. Food can play a significant role for individual enjoyment of robust health. At the same time, food can be a key factor in influencing ill health. One of the important roles of food is provision of proper nutrients required by the body (Cooper, Hodges-Mameltzis and Thorpe 4). However, malnutrition may occur due to both under or over consumption of food. Lack of access to basic nutrients may lead to ill health and poor well-being of individual. The lack of proper nutrients in parts of the world has led to increased epidemic of chronic non-communicable diseases (Cooper et al 4). A proper nutrition helps in prevention of some of major diseases in the body. Nutrition has also been shown to relate to diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac diseases, and cancer (Ministry of Health 1). Certain lifestyles such as smoking and alcohol taking have a profound impact on health. Excessive indulgence in cigarettes and alcohol may lead to addiction (NHS 1). Addiction is challenging as it affects individual health. Moreover, indulgence in alcohol makes one uncontrollable and most likely to engage in unprotected sex (NHS 1). Therefore, such individuals are at risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases (NHS 1). Such individuals are also likely to get unwanted pregnancy. Additionally, regular drinking may lead to liver diseases, heart attack and weight gain (NHS 1). Weight gain, on the other hand, may lead to obesity related to diseases such as diabetes. Moreover, cigarettes’ smoking is associated with certain forms of cancer such as lung cancer (NHS 1). On the other hand, individuals who do not take alcohol or cigarettes have a higher rate of enjoying robust health. Therefore, the lifestyles affect individual health in a significant way. Moreover, stopping smoking can improve health through improved circulation of blood and respiration (Ministry of Health 1). On the other hand, a relationship exists between health and safety. The relationship is in terms of wellness and safety (Ozer 1). In fact, most of the companies decline to hire individuals with poor health because of the safety program. As a result, most of the companies engage in campaigns aimed at promoting health behaviours, such as eating better, exercising, and seeing medical professionals (Ozer 1). Other companies encourage employees to manage risk factors as well as treating diseases (Ozer 1). Most of these companies’ views that proper management of health is paramount in ensuring risk are reduced in industries and companies. Moreover, the perception is that health employees are more likely to be able to observe and adhere to safety rules. For example, a company working with heavy machines is less likely to hire an epileptic individual as it means an increased risk to the company due to lack of safety. Moreover, health individuals will lead to reduced claim for insurance cover due to a high standard of safety (Ozer 1). In addition, some of the jobs in industries are usually strenuous. Most of such works requires workers who are in excellent physical shape. Therefore, some of health problems such as obesity can make a worker less fit. This is because mainly leads to back injuries because overweight people having problems in controlling their bodies (Ozer 1). The consequence is usually injury when moving and lifting objects. Moreover, stress may also lead lack of safety (Ozer 1). This is because stress sometimes leads to high blood pressure, which in turn results to poor decision making and hence increased level of errors (Ozer 1). On the other hand, a physically fit person is less likely to work diligently and hence avoid safety issues. Moreover, decision made by somebody on the right mind are most likely to be accurate and precise hence leading to considerable safety skills. In conclusion, it is clear that a relationship exist between health and lifestyle, health and safety. The lifestyle chosen by an individual determines the health. A healthy lifestyle leads to sound health while an unhealthy lifestyle leads to poor health. Secondly, a reputable health makes an individual able to observe safety while an adverse health makes one vulnerable to injuries. The topic is of positive to health as it helps individual adopts healthy lifestyle that will guarantee them proper health and safety.
