Mentor Interview Task Mentor Interview of mentor Susan Turner Position Director of Health Care Ministries of agency or school affiliation Health Care Ministries Educational background of Susan Turner Susan has enormous experience in the health profession since she graduated as a nurse in 1963; furthermore, she was licensed to offer her services in the health department. Since then, Susan has grown and evolved attributable to her unassailable service to patients, diligence and experience in diverse capacities. She started in the Public Health division and thereafter became a Director of American Red Cross Nursing for Ohio and Cascades Division. Prior to this, she was a Director of several Nursing Homes where she honed her management dexterity that she perfected in her succeeding positions. She was then assigned the position of a Corporate Director of Nursing of two Chains of Nursing Centers. Finally, her irrefutable service and relentless endurance of the challenges of the nursing profession catapulted her to the position of Director of Healthcare services. Capstone Experience Susan is instrumental in my development as a health practitioner. Her insightful views on how to employ my options thus acquiring exemplary skills and abilities are brilliant. She has had a gratifying vocation in the field of nursing and her wealth of experience was the basis of my interview. Her legacy connotes a qualified caring professional that is determined to offer medical attendance to patients irrespective of their ability to pay for it. Susan was my supervisor in my mentoring program; thus, she could advice me in many undertakings in the development of my career. She exemplified the importance of a nurse’s attitude in delivering services to patients. This enables the nurse to evaluate a patient’s condition since the practitioner will shun bias. She persuaded me to have a strong belief system, as this will push me to present services despite the challenges of the profession. The Directors most challenging position The Director’s position is highly significant in numerous occupations. It is not a comfortable position where one merely delegates tasks to junior officers. The coordination of tasks and acquiring of volunteers has proven to be taxing for her. Individuals who are willing to undertake free tasks and are enthusiastic about helping patients are in short supply. The proper orchestration of the various tasks can be overwhelming. Some of the functions require simultaneous implementation, which can be intricate to accomplish. She asserts that one’s willingness to offer health services to expectant patients is more essential since it surpasses their educational background. They are in a position to train and equip the volunteers with the necessary expertise to treat the clients. Most rewarding part of the Director Her major satisfaction in her occupation is emphasized by the gratification of her patients when they receive proper treatment free. This elevates her spirit and encourages her pursuance of delivering of free health services to suffering patients. What the mentor likes best of her position It is her ability to benefit positively the lives of the community residents in the medical and dental care. The residents incorporate the clients meaning that privilege to attend to their pressing concerns and pacify their suffering is the ultimate objective of her position. In order to improve care as per the seventh objectives, I acknowledge that the strategies, which will improve the eminence of care, are numerous. Embracing technological resources that aid in diagnosis and analysis of the care process will provide facts that when interpreted will improve care thus fascinating her. Additionally, coming up with relevant and flexible management protocols are instrumental in attaining quality care thus making the position interesting (Cody, 2006). What the mentor likes least of her position Susan abhors the pressure of attending to numerous requests concurrently. It is difficult to monitor several separate tasks, ascertaining they are appropriately performed, and encompass minimal faults. In addition, some clients expect their demands to be met instantaneously. This is irrespective of the supposition that due process necessitates the accomplishment of some procedures and conditions. This affects the due course in operation of health services to clients and can result in a disarray of activities. Advice She recommended that several qualities are imperative for success as an aspiring mentee. One has to employ caring and qualified volunteers who will ensure that sufficient medical care is available to patients. Volunteer orientation and frequent monitoring will ensure appropriate dispensation of healthcare. Secondly, sufficient space for reserving the healthcare needs is fundamental. This means the swelling demand of the clientele will be countered with the ample reserves. If the institution is under-supplied when it comes to medical supplies, this will be detrimental since the patients will be referred to separate medical institutions as a means of outsourcing the drug. The third and the most critical component of this endeavor are financial resources that will be sufficient to propagate free services to clients. Without financing, the actualization of this venture will be daunting since a charge is attached to every element of the investment. She further affirms that volunteers are the driving force of this venture. The actions of the volunteers including sorting donated attire are central to the success. In addition to this, Susan asserts graduates who are compelled to initiate similar health enterprises have to guarantee that the sites are accessible to the clients. Inclusion of services available in the locality that supplement the activities of the venture is necessary. This would be reassuring for the clients of recovery or lessening of their pain. She adds that if the aspiring mentee has knowledge in health and management, it is capable for him/her to develop a comparable plan to this venture. The position of a director is a plum position, which many graduates aspire to attain. Susan is an astute and diligent woman who has persisted with the idea of free quality health and finally actualized it. She applies her expertise in nursing and expansive knowledge in advancing her services to the ill. Her enhanced organizational skills have facilitated Susan’s success in the health sector.
