Extract of sample "Nutrition Education and Gender Issues"

There is no clear evidence that women are more ignorant about their bodies and take less care of them when compared to men. Men and women need an equal amount of education about nutrition, based on their specific needs. There is another view that women are more conscious of their bodies and thus take better care of them. This discounts the fact that men are also concerned about their bodies in their own ways. This has to do more with one’s psychological sense of identity, and not with the awareness of proper nutritional needs of the body.

Those who are obsessed with their body shape may not always know much about their bodies and may end up doing the wrong things in order to get a form that exists only in their dreams. In fact, there are some men who are well aware of the nutritional needs of their body and take proper care of t. Therefore, it is not fair to adhere to the general view that its only women who could be the real benefactors of nutritional education because they are by nature much concerned about their bodies. In an ideal situation, nutrition education should address the pertinent issues related to both genders.

The programs designed for both genders may vary in accordance with their specific needs. Sufficient research based on not just the physiological but socio-cultural and gender issues should pave the way for the right way to impart nutrition education. This can be achieved through reliable, need-based surveys that cover a wide spectrum of the society which is in real need of nutrition education. It is always better to avoid any sort of biases and misconceived notions when it comes to a scientific way of tackling a health issue that relates to all human beings.
