Task Menstruation Product Analysis Introduction Martin’s argument on menstruation and menopause discusses the medical metaphorsof women’s bodies. In reference to the medical literature, male and female bodies were perceived to be structurally the same until in the late 17 century when distinct body organs were found. The body was perceived, metaphorically, as a system of dynamic interactions with its surroundings. I agree with Martin’s argument that perceives menstruation as a negative process because of its inability for continuation of a species, and will use the external packaging, ‘Alwaysultra thin’, to prove the fact.

Summary of Martin’s argument Martin argues in his findings that men used to take out impurities by sweating while females menstruated to rid impurities. Men’s and women’s social roles were influenced by nature, dictated by the body’s structure (Martin, 33). A radical physiological distinction of males was dominated by active, energetic katabolic functions while female by passive, conservative anabolic function. Menstruation process evidently lied on the borders of pathological change.

The basic changes that occur in terms of female reproduction system are menopause and perceive menopause as a pathological state (Martin, 31). Menstruation is occurs when endometrium is shed, initiating a new cycle when fertilization fails to occur. “That is why it used to be taught that ‘menstruation is the uterus crying for lack of a baby (Martin, 45). Martin argues that the perception of menstruation as a failure of authority structure of body contributes to negative perceptions. Women’s menacing sense of control in their menstruation period results to the negative perception and image of the process; since, they are not continuing the species (Martin, 47).

In case fertilization and pregnancy fails to occur, a new ovarian cycle begins, and endometrium layer is repaired. In his argument, menstruation is compared to terms such as ‘ceasing’ ‘vanishing’, ‘trailing’, ‘denuding’, and ‘expelling’ (Martin, ). Menstruation is a failed production process that is negatively viewed according to nature demand. In comparing stomach and uterus, stomach that is possessed by both males and females is for continuous production and replenishment.

Conversely, uterus that only women possess is characterized with breakdown and decay that requires repair. Martins describes menopause as a stage in which ovaries are incapable of producing estrogen, which is similar to World Health Organization (WHO) description that defines it as estrogen-deficiency diseases. Consequently, Martins illustrates the negative effects of ovaries failing to produce female hormones. Critique Alwaysultra thin, the external package slogan, ‘Enjoy being a woman…everyday’ depicts a negative assumption of menstruation.

Firstly, the product is meant’ for women undergoing menstruation; hence, it implies that menstruation limits women happiness and comfort. Thus, it acts as an ultimate solution for the predicament and misfortunes it creates. The process is characterized with pain in the abdomen, sensing nauseous and frequent sweating. Every woman hates menstruation period since it interferes with daily activities. For example, in Martin’s argument, he describes the process using negative terms such as dying, losing and expelling.

The term dying illustrates the pain inflicted by the process since it highlights the state of death. Alwaysultra thin is a product that makes women enjoy their time; hence, depicts menstruation as a process that has innumerable disadvantages. The product is meant to trap blood as a result of bleeding during period. Similar to Martins’ argument, menstruation process does not prepare a safe, warm womb to nurture a man’s sperm. It is a complicated process that can lead to innumerable health complications in women, for example, they get sick or lose a lot of blood through bleeding.

The healing period of the endometrium wall can take a long time; hence, risking lives of women. This is evidenced by Martin’s argument when he describes stages of the healing process after menstruation. ‘degenerate,’ ‘decline,’ ‘withdrawn,’ ‘spasms’ ‘lack’ ‘degenerate’ ‘weakened’ ‘leak’ ‘deteriorate’ ‘discharge’ and after all that, ‘repair’ (Martin,47). Menstruation is a disease like any other diseases; hence, should be treated appropriately to avoid misfortune.

Proper medication should be implemented by women having menstruation to get advice and teachings on apt ways of dealing with the negative effects of the diseases. This is evidenced by Martin’s argument when he describes the process as a failed production process that is negatively perceived according to nature demand. This implies that the process happens because of failure of the fertilization process; thus, it is a deficiency of fertilized eggs in the ovary that causes the menstruation. Similarly, all diseases are caused by a factor, for example, lack of certain nutrients.

The external packaging, Alwaysultra thin, supports the ideas about menstruation that martins discusses since it was manufactured specifically for women. It promises them a solution for the problems caused by menstruation through their slogan. Menstruation is a core reason why womanhood is not enjoyed; hence, it has negative effects on them. This evidence by Martins argument when he was comparing stomach; shared by both genders, to uterus; only shared by women. He argues that the uterus is characterized with negative description since it is the breakdown and decay that requires repair.

Conclusion Conclusively, Martin’s argument perceives menstruation as a negative process in women because of the negative effects. The argument is compared with the external packaging, Alwaysultra thin, which also depicts menstruation as a process that limits women freedom. Consequently, proper strategies should be discussed to find apt ways of dealing with menstruation. Work Cited Martin, Emily.
