Communication Skills Task one Emotions are part of human beings and shapes how what we learn and do in the society; arguably, working with children was critical. I learnt that children need personal care for them to be shaped and make good people. The future of the young people depends on how they were brought up and my intern shaped me to be a good instructor and caregiver. I was able to understand and take time to understand children and how they behave. However, some are cheeky, troublesome, and restless hence kept disturbing classes. In addition, others kept on crying, pinching each other, roaming in the room, and talking. This fieldwork enabled me to comprehend the need to teach children o their emotion and understanding their feeling. This is critical in forming stronger relationship with each other, handling moods, and calming down when upset. The most difficult emotion to handle s to see a child hurt himself or others. To reduce the effects of this emotion is to use humor to defuse the conflicting situation and avoiding discussing on the person on the right. On the other hand, helping children on how to handle their emotion is critical to avoid hurting each other in case of an argument. Task two Arguably, self-awareness is a critical quality since it helps one to monitor his/ her emotions, which is an essential element in leadership. In essence, self-awareness helps in keeping an individual focused, attuned, and grounded on the facts and beliefs. When an individual is assertive and grounded, it helps him/ her in making rational. Moreover, being grounded helps in enhancing efficiency and deliberating on tasks. My self-awareness skills helped me in controlling my minds and emotions, as well as, guiding the children on becoming successful. Self-awareness skills include setting boundaries by being warm, serious, and passionate at work. Importantly, keeping the boundaries and maintaining integrity is essential. Task three Embracing intuition is critical is judging decision and risks associated with ones actions. Moreover, children are adept in reading moods and feelings on nonverbal signs hence the need for teachers to be composed. Moreover, facial expression and posture provides a statement to children on ones personality. Careful expression helps in enhancing respect and shows seriousness of the instructor hence the need to be well dressed and mannered when handing children. My internship taught me to be assertive to children, children expect the elders to make the right decision and provide guidance. Therefore, when approached for guidance and problem solving, the instructor is expected to show command of the situation. Barriers of assertive communication include excessive questioning, which creates a feeling of critical attack. Excessive questioning hinders effective communication since it leads to creation of defence mechanism and walls to keep further questions. Moreover, excessive communication makes the recipient of the information to be overloaded. This causes confusion and hinders effective communication. In sum, assuming that the other person understands what you saying is another barrier of effective communication. Task four Conflict is normal in workplace and any relationship since workers come from different background and could not agree always. Conflict at workplace triggers emotions, discomfort, feeling of hurt, and disappointment. When handled carelessly, conflict can strain relationships, leads to resentments, and irreparable rifts. Therefore developing conflict resolution is essential in building trust, enhance understanding, and strengthen bonds. Unresolved conflict at workplace lowers productivity stifles creativity, and collaboration barriers. Hitting the conflict head on is the surest means of reducing conflicts at workplace. Moreover, leaders should avoiding taking sides and treat the offenders and the offended as equal; essentially, this helps in identifying the cause of the conflict. Task five Self-control is the ability to rein on ones action and developing the right decision in life. The ability to avoid temptation and distractions is critical. Lack of self-control leads to regret, feeling of depression, and low esteem. In essence, self-control skills help in reducing impulsive actions and managing frustrations at workplace. I was able to understand that self-control helps in controlling ones behaviors, emotions, and feelings. I addition, I learnt that distracting oneself is essential in controlling ones feeling. Going for a walk, leaving the room, and talking to another person helps in reducing stress and eliciting emotions. In essence, I learnt that I should relax in tense situation and regain self-discipline. Task six Stress at workplace requires that one exhibit normal response to situations that hinders relaxation. Managing stress in life enables an individual to be alert, ready to avoid danger, and motivated to work. On the other hand, poor management of stress can lead to depression and chronic diseases such as heart disease. Moreover, I learnt that identifying the cause of stress helps in organizing oneself and reduce the triggers of stress. Setting realistic goals in life is essential since it will reduce the number of activity that one engages. In essence, this reduces the circuit of overload. Discovering how to breathe and meditating helps in reflecting and clearing the mind of disturbing thoughts. Task seven Moreover, developing alternative perception of life helps in lessening the reactions to the conditions causing stress. I also learnt that jogging and engaging in physical activity is critical in relieving the tension. Developing an assertive stance on aggressiveness helps in controlling opinion, feelings, and beliefs since it makes one to be less defensive, angry, and be passive. One needs to learn on relaxation approaches such as yoga, meditation, and tai chi Task eight The internship has enable him to develop supportive stance to enable children overcome hurting situations. Children are emotional and lack of concern to them makes them develop unproductive behaviors. Therefore, developing a strong relationship with children helps them in understanding that they are cared. Respecting students’ personal space is critical to make them feel relaxed and free. In addition, the internship helped him in developing self-awareness skills. This is a critical quality since it helps one to monitor his/ her emotions, which is an essential element in leadership. Task nine Van needs to understand that self-awareness helps in keeping an individual focused, attuned, and grounded on the facts and beliefs. When an individual is assertive and grounded, it helps him/ her in making rational. Moreover, the internship taught him to manage stress since it lowers productivity. The internship also taught on effective interpersonal skills. This is essential in eliminating excessive communication that makes the recipient of the information to be overloaded. This causes confusion and hinders effective communication. In sum, assuming that the other person understands what you saying is another barrier of effective communication Task ten Developing a supportive stance to children is critical in helping them overcome hurting situations. This will help them understand that there is someone concerned with their well-being. Respecting students’ personal space is critical to make them feel relaxed and free. Identifying the emotions as they happen is critical in enhancing self-awareness skills; moreover, one should not deny his/her emotions or suppress it. Repressing ones emotions or denying the cause of the emotions is difficult and consumes a lot of energy. Therefore, one should flex and bend them although it should be processed before communicating with others. Task eleven Establishing personal boundaries between professional work and private work is essential since it increases productivity. In addition, balance between professional and personal life helps in reducing pressure and stress. It is important to avoid persona activities during work such as reading emails, calling and texting friends, as well as, limiting time spent on personal conversation. Task twelve Aggressive customers are a nuisance in a business; however, they should not be confused with assertive ons. The difference is that the assertive ones understand their rights and calmly ask for it without shouting, issuing threats, and placing unreasonable demands. Moreover, assertive communication is critical in expressing ones ideas for it to be understood effectively. Being aggressive or passive hinders the message to be delivered to the recipient effectively since it can be ignored or elicit negative reaction. In essence, assertive communication enhances self-esteem and value ones opinion, time, and needs. Reference Keithia Wilson, C. G. (2003). Assertion and Its Social Context. New Jersey: Pergamon Press.
