Creative and professional Writing Customer Inserts His/Her Name Customer Inserts Grade Course Customer Inserts Tutor’s Name 28, 08, 2010 I have learnt through experience that the environment should be our immediate concern; I sometimes don’t even want to imagine what the future generation will find if the current escalation of climate changes and the environment is continually affected by our activities. There are thousands if not millions of industries in the world which emit harmful gases to the atmosphere and release hazardous chemicals to our rivers. I have been concerned with the effects of these actions we call industrialization; it is very ignorant of us human to contribute to the total damage of environment that we share with other animals that deserve natural environment to co-exist with us. To emphasize the consequences of our actions, I reiterate that our actions have gone beyond what is expected and I detest this human ignorance that our leaders disregard it with their political interest, in essence are not only mean but unmindful of the future generations. Statistics and scientific research has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that there will be catastrophic consequences of our industrial activities. The amount of carbon dioxide and methane that has been released into the atmosphere is large enough to cause an increase in global warming to about 1%. This figure may seem small but in essence, even an increase of about 0.1 % is catastrophic enough to eliminate almost half the world population? To make things even worse, the life cycle of carbon dioxide and its compounds is long enough to last for several generations after us. The lifespan of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere decay takes a longer time, as compared to other gases in the atmosphere (Conklin, 2006). Global warming is a good breeding ground for disease causing organism and especially bacteria; this means that there will be an increase in bacteria related diseases in the world. If micro-organism increase due to favorable conditions, then it means that the crop yield will significantly decrease with time. The crop yield will decrease as a result of increased crop related diseases coupled with unfavorable photosynthesis condition. I understand that this sounds scary but at the same time true if our activities are anything to go by. In my efforts to manage excessive human behavior with regard to waste, I have established a small organized group which spearheads the need to recycle used plastic bags. This campaign champions other aspirations as well; it works with organized firms to enhance the adverse effects of release of carbon related companies to the atmosphere. At the ground level as a group, we have worked in our hometown encouraging people to donate their plastic bags to our organization. I thought that this was a starting point on the campaign of ensuring that we work to make the world a better place than we found it. We therefore collect these plastic bags and take them to companies that are responsible for recycling them. As much as we are shaping our behavior through our responsibility as the youth, we are also touching the hearts and minds of other people who can constructively contribute to our desired objectives of making the world a better place. It is imperative for every individual to take the initiative of starting a wide campaign against actions that degrade our environment. To put emphasis on the need to enhance climate conservation, I chose to deal with plastic bags because they take a significant amount of time to decompose while affecting the environment (Victor, 2001). This is to me a simple demonstration on what the world leaders should be doing in reducing the large scale emission of carbon dioxide and its related by-products like methane. Through the small amount of time that we have spent sensitizing people on the need to conserve our environment, we have achieved a notable success. This is so as majority of people are nowadays becoming concerned with issues that affect our environment. I tend to believe that this is as a result of the consequences that have been witnessed so far with regard to the global warming and climate changes. Our target as a group is to eliminate any waste in the streets of our country and the entire world. Our mission and vision is also to ensure that we reduce 90 % of carbon dioxide released by thousands of industries in the world. Despite this being an uphill task for our small group, I believe that it is achievable through our focus, determination and faith. Our focus and aspiration is our backbone as a group. In order to foster our ambition and effort, we have allied with organizations that spearhead environmental issues in Australia and outside. With the help of technology that has come in handy, we have established a website and linked it with other websites that spearhead the need to conserve our environment. The response to our actions has always been positive. There are a significant number of people who have opted to join the path and I am happy with the way these people are reacting to environmental issues in a better and appropriate way. Our success is therefore based on people’s understanding and corporation. Our desire is to win the hearts and minds of people in order to change our planet for the better. As a group we have made quite a number of efforts in linking with other people and environmental groups globally in educating the people about the dangers of global warming. Most recently we participated in the Copenhagen Summit to lobby and pressurize nations who emit a lot of dangerous gases to commit themselves to the Kyoto protocol and to do more to reduce the harmful effects of global warming. Global warming is condition that can be reduced or curbed if proper steps are taken and steadfast commitment is made to reduce its effects. Our environmental support group has established programs to educate people on effective and safe methods to be used that could reduce the harmful effects of global warming. Statistics have proven that global warming costs around $ 20 billion each year, these costs and effects on the world are very expensive. Estimates have shown that if the world nations committed around $ 200 billion on series of agendas to reduce global warming the world could reduce global temperatures drastically to acceptable levels (Zedillo, 2008). Programs that could be adopted to reduce global warming include carbon trading, an initiative where nations with very low emissions are rewarded by selling their carbon credits to nations who emit a lot of gases to the atmosphere. Although this initiative is not very conclusive, it has had an effect on developing nations not to follow on the footsteps of world leading emitters. Another initiative would be for the world nations to develop and invest in cleaner energy, since global warming is mainly attributed to the use of unclean energy by industries in their production activities. Clean energy sources such as hydro; solar, wind and geo-thermal are some of the untapped energy sources that could be harnessed to reduce global warming. I personally believe in the maxim of prevention is better than cure, therefore the world leaders should take a more proactive role in environmental conservation and prevent the effects of global warming. Among the many measures that should be undertaken is that of a global approach towards global warming should be established by world leaders, initiatives such as the Kyoto protocol should be adhered to by all nations for a better future for all global citizens. Preventive measures that could be undertaken include education on dangerous effects of pollution and coming up with innovative ways of production. Manufacturers and producers should initiate production methods which factor in recycling, the use of recyclable packing material reduces the effect of pollution since these materials decomposes easily. Our environmental focus group has come up with a plan to involve the local community in planting trees which help in reducing the ecological footprint caused by global warming in our globe and environment. I will like to raise my concern to the world leaders that assembled in Copenhagen in the past couple of years. The spirit of unwillingness was too much evident in the discussions of the steps that were to be taken in reducing global warming through reduction of world factories that generated the most carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. The Kyoto protocol was to be replaced by another better measure of curbing escalation of carbon related products in the atmosphere. Despite the increased public urge in Copenhagen and other countries as well, the world leaders remained ignorant on the people’s call. This was a clear indication of the leaders’ unwillingness to enact legislations that will lead to a significant reduction of harmful gases to the atmosphere. Despite the calls and the monetary contributions from the countries involved, the entire process failed because of the lacking will from the participating countries, especially countries that have massive contributions of gases to the atmosphere. The Unites States and China failed to accept the terms that the summit proposed because of their selfish interest (Böhringer, 2002). I will like to add my voice as an environmental mindful person to these world leaders and the entire world population to be environment sensitive. The scientific graph that shows how global warming is increasing is simply breathtaking. The revelations of the ever increasing amount of harmful gases in the atmosphere will one day distract the permittivity and the permeability of the earth’s atmosphere. The distraction of the atmosphere will prevent proper circulation of gases that are responsible for the creation of human conducive environment. According to Gupta (2005) the penetration of the sun’s rays will also be prevented, the Ultra Violet rays important for life will be prevented from reaching the earth, and the reflection of the rays from the sun will also be blocked from entering the outer space. The consequence of this will be like a greenhouse scenario which will lead to an increase of the earth’s heat by a significant amount. Based on these scientific researches that have shown the effects of increased global warming, I will urge the entire world and specifically the world leaders to increase their sensitivity to the environmental hazards that are possible.
