?INTRODUCTION Background of Montgomery Community College are conscious of the wealth of information available at the MCC Career Job Service Center to help them with the process of a career and major of study selection. However, MCC students have had difficulty in selecting a career suitable for the Holland’s Conventional personality type as well as information on the career of an HR recruiter. In this report, HR recruiter career that fully fit into the Holland’s Conventional personality type is explored in detail (Farr & Shatkin, 2009). The information collected from various websites and literature has been summarized and evaluated, discussing this particular career in order to enhance the existing services MCC already offers. Project description This project seeks to list the challenges that MCC students have been experiencing when looking for a suitable career or major area of study at MCC Career/Job Service Center: - Overwhelming amount of unsorted information regarding an HR recruiter Lack of organization and guidelines of how and where to look for information Unawareness of Holland’s Conventional personality types, thus inability to match their personal interest and desires with career selection Lack of any summarized information specifically describing Holland’s Conventional personality type and the HR recruiter career with all pertinent information (i.e. required education, salary information, required experience, job description) To solve all the issues listed above, a concise but comprehensive study of the HR recruiter career has been produced. It includes all viable information to place in the MCC Career Center or post on your website to help interested students to make informed decisions about their potential career path. Scope Project covers the following: The areas of focus are the following: salary progression, promotional opportunities, job security, workload, etc. Information regarding the career of an HR recruiter along with any findings related to the careers appeal and usefulness Summary of key findings and recommendations to the potential student if the career is suitable for him/her based on his/her Holland Personality Type. The information summary tables and the reference page with recommended resources Report Format Discussion of HR recruiter Conclusion and Recommendations References DISCUSSION OF HUMAN RESOURCES RECRUITER CAREER Overview This career study will help current MCC students to find the career that is the most suitable to their personality, interests, and skills, using Holland’s Personality Type model. The report also provides all detailed information regarding the particular career of their choice such as required education, skills, experience, current and future job opportunities, work environment, work conditions, salary, and benefits. The career study project also summarizes all gathered information for each HR recruiter career level in an easy-to-read summary table for a quick reference. Sources of the information are listed in the summary table as well. Criteria and Methodology This report targets students with Conventional Holland’s Personality Type Model, who would be suitable for the career of HR recruiter. This personality type has excellent organizational skills and prefers building relationships across diverse cultures and backgrounds. To evaluate the suitability of this career, the following topics were researched using current government and internet sources: The information regarding the career of HR recruiter is divided in the following categories: Required education, skills, and experience Conventional type person likes being precise, orderly, organizing, and paying attention to details, so a bachelor’s degree in labor relations, personnel, and human resources is helpful and a good knowledge of the labor law is an asset. Examples of the required skills are: effective oral and written communication skills, relationship building skills, excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, database management and record keeping skills, excellent interpersonal and teaching skills, excellent organizational skills, data and information analysis skillfully, and active listening skills (Nourse, 2011). These skills match with the abilities most conventional personality type students posses, so the suitability for this career is excellent. Current and future job opportunities The current and future job opportunities should be above average (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). That is adequate for candidates with conventional personality type. Work environment, activities, and conditions The work environment and conditions of an HR recruiter should fit the conventional personality type. This personality type prefers business-detail, traditional office settings with rewards, conformity and dependability (Holland Personality Types, 2008). Salary and benefits The salary and benefits should be adequate given the education and the work tasks required. The earned salary should be average or above average. The conventional personality type person does posses management skills with no risk exposure so the salary and benefits are adequate. Required Education, Skills, and Experience The growing diversity of the workforce demands that HR recruiters work or supervise people with various cultural, backgrounds, levels of education, and experience. Thus the educational background of HR recruiters varies considerably depending on the diversity of duties and levels of responsibility. For entry-level positions, degree in human resources, human resource administration, or industrial and labor relations is an asset (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). Some employers may look for college graduates with technical or business background or liberal art education (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). For those seeking general and top management positions, an advanced degree is important. A master’s degree in human resources or labor relations or business administration with concentration in human resources management is highly recommended. A PhD is an asset for those planning to go into teaching, writing or consulting. Previous experience is required for those aspiring for advanced positions but internship or work-study experience is adequate for entry-level positions (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). Certification by a professional body is also an added advantage. For those who plan to work in the State of California and are unfamiliar with the California’s labor and human resource laws, the California Certification in Human Resources may be required (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). The HR recruiter career demands a range of personal qualities and skills. HR recruiters must write and speak effectively, listen actively, as well as possess excellent computer skills, teaching and supervising skills. Current and Future Job Opportunities The employment prospect for HR recruiter is expected to grow faster than the average for most occupation (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). Overall, employment of HR recruiter is projected to grow by 18% between 2006 and 2016 (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). Increasing pressure to recruit and retain quality employees should create many job openings for HR recruiters. College graduates with bachelor degree in human resources, human resources administration or industrial and labor relations that have earned certification should be in demand. Work Environment, Activities, and Conditions HR recruiters usually work in clean, comfortable office settings; however, the nature of the job of HR recruiters demands that they travel extensively. HR recruiters travel regularly to attend professional meetings and conferences; visit campuses to search for promising job applicants; interview prospective employees (The Editors @ JIST, 2009). HR recruiters work a standard 35-to-40 hour week through Monday to Friday with weekend and holidays off. They are expected to maintain a flexible work schedule. Salary and Benefits Annual salary rates for HR recruiters depends on a number of factors such as level of employment, training, location, education level, experience, gender, and firm size (PayScale, 2011). Salary and Benefit packages range from mid $30,000 to $81,000 (PayScale, 2011; The Editors @ JIST, 2009). Experience is an important factor. For instance, entry-level HR recruiters earn $35,000 while those with more than 8 years experience earned $56,000 annually (PayScale, 2011). The student with this personality type is well suited for a career in HR recruiter. Such a student possess excellent organizational skills, effective oral and written communication skills, active listening skills, computer skills and ability to resolve issues. A bachelor degree in human resources or any of the liberal art with relevant experience is required at the entry-level. The working conditions require frequent travels and the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule. The job prospect is good and future outlook is better than the average for most jobs. The salary and benefit are very good but depend on experience and other factors. Overall Evaluation Table for the Economist Career The following recommendations are based on the research conducted for this report and on the evaluation method of the information gathered. The alternatives that can alter these recommendations are directly linked to the overall state of the American economy and Federal and State legislations and court rulings. The career of an HR recruiter is recommended for students with excellent organization skills and effective communication skills. It is recommended to obtain certification from a professional body and a graduate degree to be competitive in the labor pool and to earn an above average salary.
