Banai (1988) defined critical thinking as a set of displayed, self-guided thinking which tries to reason at the best or highest quality level. Moreover, this kind of thinking has to be undertaken with a fair mind. Individuals who often think critically in a consistent way tend to live reasonably, rationally, and emphatically. These individuals utilize the intellectual tools that critical thinking avails their principles and concepts that propel them to assess, analyze and also improve thinking. Additionally, as a critical thinker, an individual must realize that at times, reasoning mistakes will prey on them. These mistakes manifest themselves in their reasoning, biases, prejudices distortions, vested interest, and self-interest. In this context, the paper critically evaluates Mr. Herman Good Eagle’s routine in an attempt to try and figure out the obstacles that significantly contribute to his lateness. Subsequently, critically thought solutions will also be put forward to enable Mr. Herman to manage his time efficiently.
Sometimes, being late is a way of life for some people. They happen to think that they have more time on their hands than is available. This kind of thinking is both detrimental to an individual. For example, due to poor time management, Mr. Herman risks losing his job. To figure out the factors contributing to Mr. Herman not keeping time, his route map will be analyzed systematically. Also, Mr. Herman’s causes might be technical. This means that he is bad at estimating or approximating how long events/things take. As illustrated, the consequences of running late mostly run deeper than most people (Banai, 1988). People will tend not to trust an individual who is always chronically late. As such, the individual will have a negative reputation which consequently will affect relationships.
A lot of factors contribute to making Mr. Herman late. First, Mr. Herman seems to be waking a little bit later than expected. As such, he has a limited time frame to get to work. Secondly, Mr. Herman tends to take away more time from his already constrained time frame to chat with his friends. The 10 to 15 minutes he reserves for his friends are unnecessary. Thirdly, he seems to underestimate how fast time moves or how long things tend to take. Fourth, Mr. Herman is a magical thinker. This can be broken down to mean that he is a perennial optimist. He believes that he can do a lot of things within a limited time frame. Fifth, Mr. Herman possesses procrastination characteristics. He maybe needs a deadline to take delight in the ‘rush’ of attempting to arrive at work on time. In addition to these factors, he seems to be easily distracted. Therefore, he has difficulty keeping punctuality since he gets pulled to point c while on the way from points A to B.
A time planner will highlight that Mr. Herman is taking too much time chatting with his friends. These chats can be eliminated or moved to a different time when Mr. Herman is free. Lastly, Mr. Herman should wake up earlier. This will add more time to his schedule of getting to work in addition to cushioning him from travel inconveniences. By employing these critically thought-out ideas, Mr. Herman will avoid being late to work. Read More
