Journal Entry Write a one page double spaced journal entry in which you discuss the final ment made in the introduction to Chapter 17 on page 644. Rottenberg states that “the one thing that all sides agree on is that the days of objective news reporting are over--a serious concern no matter what ones political persuasion.” Why might this be a serious concern?
The reason why this development is of serious concern is because without objective news there will always be degrees of bias involved. Objective news reporting is necessary to present the facts and then let the audience come to a conclusion based on the evidence and their own personal feelings. News reporting needs to be as objective as possible because otherwise it could be construed as propaganda. People tend to only hear what they want to hear, so if they only are presented with one political or social opinion then they will likely widely believe anything because it fits their predetermined point of view.
News reporting is a vital service necessary to keep the population informed of important national and world events. If news reporting is not objective then the lines between truth and fiction will become blurred. This is a serious concern to everyone no matter his or her political persuasion. Without another point of view to balance a news story, there will be two contrasting views of the news, neither of which will be centered or based on fact. In terms of politics, this will result in a broken down system where neither side is able to trust the other because "their version" of the news will be very different. Once politics has reached that stage, the citizens will no longer trust the government because they will have their own conspiracy theories about the real intentions of politicians. The only way to prevent such a situation is to make sure that news reporting is kept as objective as possible by sticking to the facts and having very little opinion or emotional appeals included.   Read More

It is about the horrors and pities of war as expressed by the poetic talent that is Wilfred Owen. This poem gets considered effective because it employs skilful manipulation of the emotional and mechanical sections of poetry. The poem uses similes to showcase the pities of war through vivid comparisons and explicit use of words. The word like is common in this poem to link up the negativity in the similes. Wilfred uses extensive figurative speech and diction to show emphasis, especially on the damage and destruction that war causes. This has been noted where the students are having problems capitalizing and punctuating words. There are also those who have adopted the behavior of abbreviating words to one syllable. Negotiation is a painstaking process through which people settle their differences, but in my case, I settled little differences, and won several arguments. I always thought I was on the right, and for us to reach a compromise, it had to be in my favor. In fact, I did not even engage in the process of negotiation. Conflicts and disagreements arise regularly owing to difference in beliefs and differing needs among people. Lack of negotiations resulted in resentment and unnecessary arguments that lasted for days. As a result, I lost meaningful friendships owing to barriers... Entry Journal...
