News reporting is a vital service necessary to keep the population informed of important national and world events. If news reporting is not objective then the lines between truth and fiction will become blurred. This is a serious concern to everyone no matter his or her political persuasion. Without another point of view to balance a news story, there will be two contrasting views of the news, neither of which will be centered or based on fact. In terms of politics, this will result in a broken down system where neither side can trust the other because "their version" of the news will be very different. Once politics has reached that stage, the citizens will no longer trust the government because they will have conspiracy theories about the real intentions of politicians. The only way to prevent such a situation is to make sure that news reporting is kept as objective as possible by sticking to the facts and having very few opinions or emotional appeals included.
