The impossible victory: Vietnam The international perception of the US in terms of wealth changed a lot after her invasion of Vietnam, since the US was seen as an aggressive nation and was using her wealth and might to humiliate a poor peasantry country that had committed no act of aggression against her. The US was no longer popular as before and her fame nosedived not only at the international front but also at her own soil whereby she was faced by many dissents, strikes and several protests against the Vietnam war from her own people.

The power of the US was also greatly questioned and came under sharp criticism. As a superpower, and a vibrant democracy, the US was supposed to be not only the global watchdog but also the custodian and guardian of human rights. The above happened because the world was aware that the US was only perpetuating her ideologies and did not care about the Vietnamese people.The US has learnt that to go to war needs proper prior planning and there must be a well founded basis for going into war, with the support of all the stakeholders in the country and there should be a reasonable cause for war, 2.

The gun control movement active in America today is similar to the anti Vietnam movement of the 60s and 70s.People have risen up against the licensing and use of guns in the US. This is after several incidents of indiscriminate killings, having taken place. The aspect of freedom of movement and protection of life are the aspects of the American Dream affected. I feel the movement would gain more momentum if the young people were involved since they are the majority of the victims and have their future to safeguard.3. When compared, the two movements are similar since they are all against loss of human life.

For the 21st century movement however, the government has been quick to respond and some states have enacted tight gun control legislations. The anti Vietnam movements claimed many lives and imprisoned several others before the government could finally act and stop the war.
