Same sex marriages This paper will give the solutions on to which the society should undertake in order to solve the social problem of same sex marriages. Recent discussions on marriage between same sex individuals have lead to the emergence of debates about gay marriages. This is because this kind of marriage is referred to as marriage between individuals of the same sex or gender identity. The increase in the spread of HIV in the community is regarded to be due to that fact that matters about sexuality has taken a high profile. A good number of governments have legalized the gay marriages while others strongly oppose it citing that it goes against humanity and its nature. In this essay, I shall portray the reasons as to why individuals would be for or against same sex marriages before I give a brief statement on what the society should opt for. Many arguments have been shot to support same sex marriages that include homosexuals and lesbianism. Arguments have hit debates that since there is no evidence that same sex parents are not poorer than heterosexual parents and that different individuals make more stable couples and that they do not have any impact on parenting abilities, they therefore are relatively better than heterosexual couples (Gallagher, 20). Others have argued that same sex marriages are unrelated to polygamous relationships which make it considerably a better way to escape cheating and unfaithful couples in marriage. Opponents to same sex marriages have stated that marriage is traditionally meant to be a union of one man and one woman, homosexual and lesbianism unions can be classed with polygamy as it goes against definition (Gallagher, 25-28). Religious opponents have stipulated that God created the marriage institution for the purpose of procreation. Same-sex married couples cannot reproduce. This argument is based on the concept that God exists. However giving this a second thought the ability of same sex couples to reproduce is not entirely a problem because we have encountered heterosexual couples that are not able to reproduce and are comfortable with it. The society should, therefore, provide gay couples with similar legal and social identities allow them to access the advice of law and equal judgments upon it so as to avoid infringing upon rights of others. Gay marriages should be allowed to enjoy the same privileges’ enjoyed by the majority because only minorities differ from the rest due to the fact that these individuals are commuted in terms of feelings and relationship. This is important because if we open doors to exclude others in terms of treatment it will imply that we are indeed creating loopholes for unfair treatments especially for the minority groups. Values such as equality, respect, a sense of belonging and dignity have to be upheld to avoid social tragedies that may affect us all (Mello, 30-46) Families of individuals who engage in same sex marriages are also affected because these people do not just happen. They are someone’s daughter or son, brother, sister uncle or aunt. Having a family member discriminated by the community can affect the family as a whole. Therefore, it is advisable that before one publicly humiliates a gay person they should think of the as one of their family member (Rimmerman & Clyde, 50-80). Same sex individuals may lack the opportunity to familiarize relationships as do heterosexual individuals. This may lead to one being in denial of oneself. The community is again required to support all its individuals’ irrespective of their take on sexuality. In may 2011 president Obama committed to support same sex marriage citing that it was consistent with his faith. In his support he said that Mitchell, and him are both Christians and this position could be considered to place us at opposition with the opinions of others. He went further stating that the society thinks about their faith, the fact is that not only did Jesus sacrifice himself on our behalf but also the golden rule. Therefore, do to others what you want to be done unto you (Adkisson, 20). Marriage today is less than a contract or agreement among people allocating the destinations of their assets when they die. It’s actually a contract I which governments constitutionally maintains a monopoly over. Neither the government nor the church should control issues concerning marriage. The solution to this confusion is not for the government to allow same sex marriage and distribute benefits to a different class of people. The real solution that the government should take is to get out of marriage, marriage benefits and this implies that no one needs the government to give them a license to get married and no one gets to receive benefits once they are married. Other people have shot arguments that same sex couples destroy the sanctity of all marriages and should be outlawed due to that. But the reality is that if you are too much into what your gay neighbours are doing, their privacy of their own cabins are negatively affecting your own marriage. At the very least you need couple therapy. It’s true that divorce rates have increased for ages and that gay marriages have generally been forbidden during that period . It fails to beat logic blaming gays for corrupting something they could not even possibly participate in. Another possible solution to same sex marriage is primarily an amendment of the constitutions of various countries that do not propose gay marriages .Definitions of a marriage need to be ironed from just a union between a man and a woman. The exact wording and phrasing would have to be amended by legal scholars (Michael,20-40). Many companies have argued that by not letting gay marriages be legal for instance in the US, it hinders their competitiveness by reading extra administrative hurdles in the US ,there are different tax laws for same sex and those for the opposite sex .legalizing gay marriages would alleviate payroll headaches for many businesses. Both opposes and individuals who support same sex marriage do recognize that marriage is all about sincerely, commitment ,faithfulness and trust. They are both aware that marriage ought to be an institution that allows two loving individuals to fulfill their commitment towards each their irrespective of their sexuality. The human right campaign is one of the head supporters of same sex marriages. According to the human rights campaign many same-sex couples are asking for the right toe legally married to their partners because they are in love. Many have spent a lot of time together but want the society to honor their relationship by making public commitment stand together in good and bad times. Works Cited J.W. Adkisson.
