13 January The Theme of “Politics and the English Language” and “Simplicity” In “Politics and the English Language”, George Orwell criticizes the disagreeable and erroneous nature of the modern-day English writing. Orwell asserts that political writings was develop to make deceits seem honest; to make murder proper, and to provide a manifestation of strength and firmness. The author argues that because the real intention of political proses is to conceal the truth instead of expressing it, the nature of the writing becomes utterly futile and empty.

This indistinct writing style is an infection that has scattered to those who did not even have the motivation to conceal the truth, and it has covered the veracity from him or her and from other people (Shelden 393). In its place, Orwell suggests to use simple English. The theme of “Politics and the English Language” is likewise relatively entwined with the thematic gist of “Simplicity” in that Zinsser contends that writers should consider their prospective reader’s interpreting abilities in formulating their writings.

He argues that most writers tend to utilize the entire span of their vocabulary in order to please themselves, but failed to consider how the readers would understand the notion behind their writings. Zinsser affirms that “Clear thinking becomes clear writing”, which could mean that once the author meets the neutrality of his or her writings in that it is comprehensible regardless of the deciphering abilities of your readers, then it becomes useful to everybody.
