Learning from the Group Process The group process was a very useful experience for all of us since we happened to experience what working with a group is like. Till now, I had only heard of or read about such concepts as group think, group conflicts, and team harmony etcetera, but having experienced all this has inculcated sound concepts in me. In the present age, one of the most fundamental skills that are required of an individual in the workplace are the group skills. As the society has become increasingly multicultural over the years, the emphasis on diversity in all aspects of the work culture has increased including teamwork.
From the group process, I have learnt how to carry on my point and convey it to my group members without getting affected by the group think. I have found out how important it is to focus one’s efforts at achieving the common goal of the group rather than bringing personal ego in between the matters. Conflicts are inevitable when we work in a group because the thoughts, opinions, and beliefs of the members of the group are bound to vary. The tendency of the group to achieve success fundamentally depends upon the group members’ dedication to the task and their utmost effort to avoid the dysfunctional conflicts and sustain mutual harmony in the group.
The learning we gained from the experience of this project would benefit us both in the academic and professional career. Overall, it was a very enlightening experience and one of the most useful projects executed as part of the course.
