Accordingly, Bell likewise noted that people opted to use leaf blowers due to limited time; but emphasized the disadvantages and dangers of using them. The author disclosed that technology indeed finds ways to solve problems but some apparent new concerns and issues are attached to them. He aptly concluded to “use our technology more discriminately instead of using it just because we can” (Bell 472). I strongly agree with Bell’s assertion that “although technology has improved society in many ways, we use it indiscriminately, not distinguishing the good uses from the bad” (Bell 470).
From his example of comparing the leaf blower with the rake, one could determine more benefits of using the rake in terms of providing a good means for physical activity, enjoying nature, and relishing time while gathering wilted leaves. Other technological gadgets could have given us comfort and convenience in doing daily tasks, but we miss the benefits of going back to basics and using our body’s natural need for physical activity and enjoying the process of doing the tasks rather than the instant results provided by technology.
