It is of great significance to point out that as at the time the movie premiered in 1968 several social and political dynamics were ongoing in America and eventually creating international and national predicaments. The social upheavals in America during these periods had strong relationships with the war and civic movements. This paper attempts to analyze the cultural and historical environment and scene of Europe and particularly America as depicted by George Romero’s movie “Night of the Living Dead”.

This exercise is critical because it enables the expansion of knowledge in literature through the interpretation of great artists’ works. The exercise also brings out the dissimilarity and variation of perception when people interpret a similar art individually thus making greater contribution to the debate. Analysis of the Cultural and Historical Context in “Night of the Living Dead” The “Night of the Living Dead” is one of George A. Romero’s artworks that expanded the space and content opportunities for future artists.

George Romero employed a unique film making strategy to produce a successful artwork (Williams 17). Literally, “Night of the Living Dead” presents a lot of information on perceptions and thoughts that viewers infer as opposed to information the developer intended. The movie clearly depicted the cultural and historical nature of America in the year 1968 (King, Coretta and Vincent 78). It is important to recognize that America underwent immense transformation during the same period leading to major social, cultural, and political reconstructions.

Arguably, the negative social, cultural, and historical occurrences, which took place in America in 1968, transformed the national atmosphere from broad confidence and hopefulness to disorderliness and uncertainty. This period largely remains the most turbulent era in America’s history because of the experiences that people underwent within the twelve months of the World War II. The period has to date offered the world massive opportunities to know about the unfortunate consequences of revolution (Russell and Ronald 24).

In fact, the historical significance of 1960’s era to America requires no more emphasis. On the other hand, scholars have come to a consensus that 1968 is the most fundamental time of the decade. This period largely saw the nation collectively pursue cultural and historical transformation through aggression, diversity, anarchy, and mayhem. The movie “Night of the Living Dead” has undoubtedly verified the cultural and historical context. The film largely focuses on the social injustices that surround the life of women and their vulnerability during war (Mitchum 200).

It also shows instances of political discrimination and prejudice, which women went through. Russell and Cohn (219) observes that America’s forefathers suggested the significance of emancipation in attaining absolute freedom, right to life, and contentment of humankind. However, it was unclear that the pursuit of emancipation presented negative ramifications to the society and especially among racial minorities and women. The movie unequivocally depicts women as a devastated group just like black people who were taken as slaves.

The movie also depicts a historically important political happening in America, which eventually reorganized
