First thing to consider is that there is around 13% of the military population is comprised by women (Willens 1996). Before women reached this population inside the military, there have been limitations on their integration to the military from 32000 which is very minimal (Willens 1996). Although certain situations like the World War II and other conflicts that have occurred between countries provided certain conditions that allowed several numbers of women in the military (Willens 1996). Women have provided significant contributions in the logistical matters, medical operations and the like in the military operations (Jelinek 2011). This can be considered a feminist move in this case and this is a manifestation for women trying to get equality and representation in the military field wherein gender politics is a very intriguing matter (Butler 1990, p. 1). One thing is that women’s welfare be prioritized (Jelenik 2011). Their safety is being considered since even if women are allowed to be in military, they are not allowed to engage the conflict on the front line (Jelenik 2011). Here's Why Women Should Not be Allowed in Active Combat Duty. Women have been fighting for equal rights with men for more than century and I must say that the feminist fight has won huge battles in terms of equality of the sexes. Women have proven that they can play hardball with the best men in various career fields.
But in recent decades, roles based on gender have increasingly withered on the vine. This has happened to such an extent that in some armies women now fight in combat situations. Proponents of these policies say that this is the ultimate form of equality, and that every women should have the right to fight and die for the country that they love.
Women in combat positions: Women should be respected as women, not because they can emulate being a man Women are currently barred from serving in more than 220,000 positions in the United States military. This is due to policy that was revised 17 years ago in which women are barred from serving in infantry positions, special forces, tanks, combat engineering and other specialized ground combat positions.
This step which has been taken to enforce gender equality can change the global outlook regarding the issue. But, the US is not a pioneer country that has allowed women on the front lines to fight the enemy. Historically, in Russia during the World War II and also in Israel since the last 15 years women have been participating in combat.
The data to be presented suggests nothing which is isolated or an aberration; quite the contrary, the data suggests rather forcefully and rather comprehensively that women exposed to combat both directly and indirectly suffer far more than their male counterparts.
