Salyers et al (2015) explores what motivates, what expectations and experiences of Students Who Study in Global Settings. They base their study on students who voluntarily participated in global learning experiences as a program in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Salyers et al (2015) employs both qualitative and quantitative research, there will be considerations on all factors that may affect the methodologies. Salyers et al was carried research in mid-sized university in Western Canada with a total enrollment of approximately 13,570 students. The research design also applied the principle of voluntary participation since they do not coerce any participant to join the research. The main findings indicated that students’ motivations were career development, hands on experience, encouragement from faculty, peers and family, challenge self and exploration values. The expectations of the experiences were hands-on and practical skills development; “real world” application of content beyond the classroom and Personal Growth. It was concluded that planning is important for GLE to have a positive impact on students. The limitation of was that most students were not available for interview in order to validate results. Salyers et al (2015) concluded that motivations of Students from global learning experiences were professional, educational, social as well as strive to know and understand various cultures. When it comes to expectations and experiences he stated that most students indicated that safe learning experience, engagement as well as being facilitated by the faculty. The planning of the GLE was said to be of greater importance for participants as they minimize the potential challenges faced. Article 2 Summary of Adnan et al, (2014) Self-Regulated Learning and Motivation of Islamic Studies and Non-Islamic Studies Stream Students. The main objective of Adnan et al (2014) journal was to examine the differences in learning strategy and motivation between Islamic studies and non-Islamic studies stream students. Adnan et al (2014) based their study on the integration of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors that leads Islamic Studies and Non-Islamic studies stream students to effective learning. They investigated differences in self-regulated learning and motivation between the Islamic and non-Islamic stream students; and examining relationships between self-regulated learning, motivation and academic performance The authors utilized a research design that involves the collection, processing, and analyzing of data in arriving at a conclusion. Thus, there are necessary steps, methodologies, and procedures applied in the research to accurately describe certain fields of study. Indeed, there are several types of research design that are mostly dependent on the field of research or nature of research problem. In assessing the study, it shows that they presented their clear objective and purpose. Sampling method was used to select 825 students from universities in Malaysia. Results of the study show that there is a significant difference in learning strategy and motivation between Islamic studies and non-Islamic studies stream students. When considering differences in extrinsic goal orientation between Islamic studies and non-Islamic studies stream students’ major significance was determined. The main limitation of the study was generalizability of the results because of the sampling technique that was applied. They concluded their study that there is significant difference in the self-regulation learning strategies and motivational factors for students in Islamic studies and non-Islamic studies stream. The other findings show that non-Islamic students score higher than Islamic studies students in all self-regulation learning strategies especially in metacognition self-regulation and organization. Article 3 Summary of Creed, et al (2015) Working while studying at university: The relationship between work benefits and demands and engagement and well-being. According to Creed et al, (2015) the objective of this study was to examine the relationship between work benefits for university students. Many programs have been developed that are designed to cater for students who study while they work or who have other commitment in their lives. Creed et al, (2015) study was based on role-conflict, depletion, and enrichment model. The method of study employed was quantitative and qualitative with intention of studying the role of conflict and role facilitation in university students working while studying. The study was conducted on 185 undergraduate university students studying a social science programme at a large regional university in Australia consisting of 77% female and 23% males. Creed et al, (2015) findings showed that there were a number of conflicts and benefits for a student working while studying. Some of the benefits on life of university students while working were the ability to access resources to enable good life at the university as well as psychological rewards such as hands on experience. While the negative effects were straining unavailability of time to study and change of behavior. They highlighted that the number of participants in the study who were very few to enable to make a general conclusion as one of the limitations. In conclusion Creed et al stated that objective of the study was to determine the relationship between working benefits and studying as well as find out the benefits and demands of a student studying while working. It was found out that the work-based benefits for students were overwhelming the demands. The student with the financial resources needs was able to continue their education although it affected their performance due to low engagement however the general being of the student was improved. Task 3 The materials of assignment were provided and proper analyses has been undertaken to address each research question. I read through and summarized with appropriate use of proper language. The findings do provide strong evidence regarding the research questions All major findings of paper were interpreted and discussed within the context of prior research and/or the study’s conceptual framework. The interpretations were also consistent with the results and with the study’s limitations. Reflection Upon thorough scrutiny from a student point of view of this particular papers that I have summarized, I am able to pinpoint some of the motivations, expectation and experiences of studying on global setting. I learnt the various benefits and conflicts of students working while studying. The study on Self-Regulated Learning and Motivation of Islamic Studies and Non-Islamic Studies Stream Students is one of the most enlightening research paper as it provides insights about self-regulation. The study of Exploring the Motivations, Expectations, and Experiences of Students Who Study in Global Settings is significant because once one expectations are realized, experienced is gained. The other articles are therefore important tool for the research process since it provides useful information that relates to topic in question. This will be integrated with other aspects involved in the actual research to enhance efficiency. As such, the article is relevant to the research. It is important for the research paper to analyze data and therefore the methodology used in the article can also be used in the study to enhance effectiveness. In addition, the articles cintains information that can be added to other topics of the research. As a result, relevance of the article increases significantly.
