Numerous Aspects in Education Fields - Case Study Example

Though it's popular in Business studies, the case study method has now been used in the research process of the social sciences also. It is one of the most popular methods of research in the education field. While describing the scope of the term case study, Yin (2009, p.2) describes Case study as one of the several ways of doing social science research. It includes but is not limited to experiments, surveys, histories, and economic epidemiologic research. In the case of the study, both quantitative and qualitative data are incorporated.

Case studies are one of the ideal ways of research, and especially it is ideal in education. It is because education research prefers real-life situations. Case study methodology makes the real-life data available. The real strength of the case study lies in its observations, pieces of evidence, and documents.This paper basically highlights numerous aspects of education fields associated with the real objective of education, i.e., to improve students in a real sense. There are observations carried out by me to decide what is effective and ineffective in the classrooms.

For the paper, I have taken two case studies. Let me first explain these case studies in detail.My first case study is about a community school. The strength of this school is 472 pupils. Their age group is between 3 and 11. Most of them are from minority ethnic backgrounds. The Asian community is dominating among this minority group. English is not their mother tongue, but they speak it as an additional language. Under the eligibility criteria for free school meals as prescribed by the government, a total of 25.

2% of pupils are eligible for free school meals in this school. This is the percentage of financially backward students. This percentage is though average, and it is increasing. In school, some children need special education, and special attention needs to be given to them. They are a total of 11.7%. Their education need is basically associated with literacy difficulty such as confusing letters, reversing letter sequence, omission or addition of letters, inability to write down words even when the letters are dictated clearly, or inability to identify appropriate letters when given a sound or vice versa.
