Extract of sample "Effects of the Interview on My Thinking"

I interviewed a teacher and learned that in the education field, diversity improves learning and awareness across cultures. Diversity also offers a rich mix of characters in a diversified community to promote interactions of people’s strengths and weaknesses in an organization. A multi-cultured community, therefore, has the advantage of effectiveness and efficiency in generating solutions to problems, especially if the differences are managed effectively. The interview also established that the benefits of diversity apply across different fields.

Effects of the interview on my thinking
The interview changed my thinking about superiority issues across diversity. I previously focused on major traits across cultures and believed that people’s potentials depend on their cultural orientations but the interview changed my thinking. I, however, now understand that each culture is rich in potential and that diversity is not the basis for determining an individual’s ability. Learning of the advantage of integrating cultural features in a multi-cultured community for effectiveness has also informed me that diversity is important and organizations should promote it.

Effects of the change in thinking on my actions
I appreciate cultural differences and try to learn more about each culture because of my change in thinking. I interact with people from different cultures, with honesty, and even try to incorporate their traits into my life and activities. My attention has therefore shifted to developing diverse relationships that I currently work on.
Important information I learned about diversity from the cultural immersion experience

The important information that I learned about diversity, from the cultural immersion, is the role of diversity decision-making. While different cultures have different approaches to decision-making, each approach is not perfect but the integration of positive elements from each culture improves the decision-making process, leading to informed decisions.
Possible effects of the knowledge on my interaction with other people

The knowledge has developed a new perspective in me and I will in the future incorporate perspectives from different cultures while making decisions. I will identify individuals from each cultural background, if possible, and seek their opinions for consideration in decision-making processes.
Personal assessment of skills of a diversity-conscious leader and possible improvements

My self-assessment identified good communication and self-monitoring skills while my adaptation skills are just average and I need to improve in all the skills with a focus on adaptation. I plan to apply my developed knowledge of the significance of cultural diversity. I will learn of cultural differences and use the knowledge to adjust to diverse needs within time limits. I will improve my knowledge of communication skills and cultural awareness for appropriate communication approaches to different cultures. I will also learn about different cultural values in communication. I will however improve my monitoring and evaluation through the elimination of bias and objectivity.

Personal assessment of the four building blocks of diversity-conscious leaders, necessary improvements, and actions toward the improvements
I need to improve my awareness and understanding of diversity-conscious leadership. Awareness and understanding involve cross-cultural competence that I have neglected and I plan to improve my awareness and understanding through better cross-cultural potentials. I will use cultural awareness to improve my awareness potential and sensitivity to improve my awareness towards diversity-conscious leadership. Read More
