Communication in Todays Workplace - Discussion There are several factors that depict the effectiveness of a piece of writing in the workplace. These factors include the contents of the paper, the level of formality maintained in the language, the extent of grammatical errors, and text formatting. To make a writing effectaive, it is imperative that the content is weighty and free of unnecessary repetitions, the language is formal and polite, grammatical errors are nil, and the text is formatted as per the demand e.g. letter, application etc.

One problem that I encountered on the job with my own writing was that I was not quite trained in the formats of letters, memos, and applications. I constantly had to refer to samples, and that occasionally drew my attention away from the main purpose of writing. A problem that I encountered particularly with others’ writings was grammatical errors. Grammatical errors make the paper seem unprofessional and the reader tends not to take it very seriously, even if the content carries a lot of weight.

Writing skills that I consider most important in the workplace include being proficient in the use of MS Word, and such other programs like Wordpad and Notepad etc. The user should know the various functions available and how they can be utilized to improve the writing. On-the-job education and training can play a prime role in the writing of a company’s correspondence as expected. Less trained employees can be made to learn the techniques from the more experienced ones. In addition to that, time management is an important depicter of timely correspondence.
