? A Great Career Choice: Teaching Children Written Communication Skills III Section 3 Teaching Children This paper aims to discuss the subject of teaching children particularly when it comes to the choice of a great career. Teaching Children requires significant skills, knowledge and abilities which every individual does not possess. Although the basic skills can be taught but teaching children needs far more than that. For instance, a teacher must be a very good artist with and advanced aesthetic sense while having well defined goals and objectives. Moreover, he/she should have a high tolerance level and emotional control which is absolutely necessary for communicating with children. These attributes are further linked with the knowledge, training, feelings and social responsibilities. Thesis Statement: Teaching children requires an individual to have varied skills, love and appreciation for young kids in addition to the specified goals. Teaching children revolves around few basic principles including fundamental learning procedures, classroom activities, social services, training and development and the emotional control. Teachers are primarily responsible to enrich the learning environment by supporting their students and building a relationship with them that is beyond classrooms. Motivation is yet another aspect associated with teachers in terms of their personal growth and child’s upbringing (Fisher, 2005, p.45-58). Pursuing the teaching career is not only challenging rather it involves substantial efforts in order to become successful and influential enough to guide the young ones. Research indicates that Education plays the most crucial role in the development of a profound kindergarten teacher (Weintraub, 2000, p.7). This is primarily because of the fact that children do not have the basic understanding of the world around them and therefore if they are exposed to the wrong information and ideas about life then it can actually destroy their entire personality. Moreover, children have a very distinguished psychology which must be understood by the teacher so as to provide them with the best possible lessons. For instance, children love to play with toys which acts as a great opportunity for teachers to taught them lessons with the help of different colorful things. Children fundamentally enjoy different forms of art work even if it is only limited to coloring objects. Hence teachers should also be good at art or at least they must have the minimum understanding of the different artistic features. Another important job task for the teacher is to effectively and efficiently deliver the information to a child. This should be done in an easiest way so that children can understand it quickly. For instance, children should be taught to clean their rooms, change their dresses and also to buckle their shoes. Apparently these daily life task are considered naturally adaptable however, many of the adults fail to clean their rooms and also to maintain a tidy personality simply because they were never taught to do so. Thus teachers must be able to communicate the correct information with the most suitable words. If children are being threatened or scolded for these things then they would never adopt it as a habit therefore teachers must be careful about their tone (Transitional Kindergarten, 2013). Training courses especially for teachers of young children play a vital role in their career development and also in advancing the academic performance of students. Different children have entirely different aptitude level which increases the on job challenges for teachers. Hence teachers require timely training in order to understand their students’ unique requirements. Moreover, training is also necessary for maintaining the academic standards (Texas Learn, 2007). This can be achieved by participating in various learning activities, training and development sessions. The school management must facilitate teachers in terms of providing them extensive learning opportunities. These sessions can also be conducted using the visual means and the latest technology. In the contemporary world teacher development programs are gaining much recognition because people are focusing more towards preparing teachers to deal with the challenges of young children (Edutopia, 2008). Teaching children requires the professional individuals to maintain a sound understanding of emotions and feelings. In broader terms emotional management relates to the reflection over one’s experiences and different situations. Children are far expressive than adults. They clearly reflect the common emotions such as sadness, happiness or excitement. The teacher’s job is to critically and effectively inquire children when they are sad. This should be followed by proper child counseling with a solution to their problems. Happiness of children must be shared with everyone, for instance, if a child is happy about his new toy then he must be appreciated by his teachers. Children are also very spontaneous as they get excited over very small things however, they must not be neglected or discouraged by the teachers in such situations. Understanding the emotions of children actually help them in coping with stress while they also develop a significant tolerance level. Thus the responsibilities of a teacher in this regard can never be under estimated (Transitional Kindergarten, 2013). A great career choice is directly associated with the professional goals and objectives. A well planned and well organized teacher significantly impacts his students. Goals can be distinguished in different categories, for instance, the physical goals, social goals and the emotional goals. Physical goals deal with the body fitness and overall health which is necessary to perform the job tasks. Teaching children can be at times very hectic and physically tiring and therefore teachers must maintain a proper routine of exercise and personal grooming (Weintraub, 2000, p.11-12). This should also be taught to the children because they also require daily exercise same as adults. Social goals are highly substantial for any form of career development. Teachers need to have a very sound social image so that they can be easily trusted by parents. Moreover, teachers must also focus over the social training of their students. Balanced self esteem and a positive self image is very important for teachers of young children. This is because if the teachers are emotionally disturbed then they cannot give their complete attention on their job while greatly compromising over the learning interests of children. Hence feeling comfortable about one’s skills and abilities is crucial to pursue a great career such as teaching children (Weintraub, 2000, p.11-12). Conclusion A great career choice has to be interesting, challenging and highly rewarding in terms of money and also in relation to the social services. Teaching children is one of the great careers but it requires individuals to have significant skills and abilities apart from the general qualification requirements. For instance, a teacher must be able to engage children into developing activities while considering their unique psychology and interests. He/she must be good at art and drawing because that fascinates children and increases their motivation level. To enhance the skills of teachers school management must try to give them regular training with respect to the changing dynamics. In addition to this the individuals seeking to become teachers should also have sound emotional understanding while having well defined career goals. References Edutopia. (2008).
