Planning a training program 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background of the Training Plan Crochet is a procedure of developing cloth by using strand, yarn and other substances. It uses crochet hook and ingredients such as metals, thickets or plastic. Preparing crochet includes certain significant steps such as looping, making rounds, stitching, and binding among others which should be taught properly for effective completion. The paper will provide a training plan for learning crochet. The plan is developed on the basis of interactive model which comprises five phases which are: Identification of Program Ideas: In the first phase, the basic idea regarding the training program has been recognized. The basic idea of the training program is to teach the adult people about doing crochet from the initial phase. Developing Program Objective: In the second phase, the objectives of the training program have been developed. The major objectives of this program are: To generate understanding about crochet To know about different stitching methods To increase the ability of drawing different designs and put it in practice Defining Program Trainees: The third phase includes defining the program trainees. The training program is designed for adult learners and therefore all steps are adjusted in such a way so that it can simplify the way of learning. Designing Instructional Plan: After defining the trainees, an in-depth plan of all activities that are going to be conducted in the training, are planned. Shaping Program Format: In the final stage, the program format of crochet training is determined with basic timeline (Caffarella, 2002) 2.0 Training Plan First Stage: Beginning At the first stage, there is need to provide learning to the trainees about different technical terms for creating crochet. There are several significant elements for creating crochet which need to be taught about to the beginners before actually instigating the training of particular techniques of crochet. For instance, hook, yarn or threads are significant elements for creating a perfect crochet, thus trainees should understand their uses effectively. In this phase, the trainers will provide training about the basic components which are required for creating crochet such as: Identifying several types of hooks, yarns, and threads Recognizing the uses of other significant components such as scissors, safety pins, stitch markers, buttons, and zippers among others Measuring the length and the breadth of crochet that needs to be developed Selecting appropriate needles for crochet and, Calculating number of stitches in crochet Second Stage: Chain Stitching Making crochet starts with learning about chain stitching. At the second phase, the trainees will be provided training about ‘how to stitch’. Chain stitching is a needlework stitching method in which a chain design is developed from twisted stitches. It is considered as a traditional craft method. Chain stitching does not necessitate needle badge and due to this reason, the stitch is considered as actual surface embroidery on complete fabric. In this phase, the trainers will learn about making curved line and numerous sewing patterns. Two significant trainings will be provided in this stage, one is hand stitching and the other one is machine stitching technique. Hand stitching will be the fundamental training for developing crochet. After acquiring complete grasp of hand stitching, the trainees will know about how to do machine stitching as an advanced stitching technique. It is considered as a faster as well as more secured stitching method. Third Stage: Single Crochet In the third stage, the learners will be provided training about how to make single crochet. Single crochet is one of the most vital phases for learning crochet because without it no one will be able to prepare the double crochet properly and the whole training will become a chaos. The single crochet training will instruct the following aspects: Method of implanting the crochet hook Method of yarning Drawing up the circle Conducting reverse yarn Drawing the yarn in both hoops Fourth Stage: Dual Crochet After completely understanding the process of single crochet, the trainees will be provided teaching about conducting the dual crochet. It is the other crucial method of doing crochet. This stage is important for making trainees understand about the most important crochet patterns and process of designing them accordingly. In this stage, the trainers will completely understand about the following aspects: Covering the yarn Merging the loop Merging the covered yarn by dual circles Creating basis chain and, Yarning over the circle Source: (Brittain & Manthey, 2012) Fifth Stage: Slip Stitching After learning the single and the double crochet, it will be time for learning to join different stitching elements. Thus, in the fifth stage, the trainers will learn about slipping the stitch. Slip stitching is often used for merging one crocheted component with the other crocheted component. The slip stitching is the smoothest technique among other crochet stitches training techniques. This stage is characterized by the following techniques: Creating long chain Back wrapping and, Sketching and joining the hooks Source: (Brittain & Manthey, 2012) Sixth Stage: Learning Different Stitching Techniques In order to enhance the design of crochet, there is need to learn several designing stitching apart from the basic stitching techniques. In this stage, the trainers will learn about increasing the double crochet, decreasing the double crochet, and creating popcorn stitch among others. There are several designs one can learn from slip stitching by mixing one work with the other. In this phase, the trainers will learn about various designing stitching which are: Post stitching Back stitching Switch stitching Prickle stitching Threefold stitching and Using several colors in stitching Source: (Brittain & Manthey, 2012) Seventh Stage: Crochet Finishing Techniques: The final stage of creating crochet is learning how to finish it in an appropriate manner. After spending major effort on learning different stitching techniques in previous stages, such as making different designs and joining several works, the work should be finished in a proper way so that the crochet looks astonishing and grabs the attention of people. This phase is a vital part of the complete training program because it can determine how the crochets will look better. In this stage, the trainees will know about several decorative practices over the crochet stitching such as making shapes (circle shape, diamond shape, or hexagon shape), joining yarns, enhancing finishing components (adding buttons, droplets, and stars), and making patterns (adding pockets and edging). This training will help to learn crochet making from initial phase and use several techniques to enhance the design of crochet (Turner, 2009). 3.0 Plan Curriculum This training is planned for adult groups with people above 25 years age. The detailed curriculum of the training program format along with the timeline is given below: Type Title Description Method Duration 1 Beginning Understanding different technical terms and basic understanding about crochet Seminar 2 days 2 Chain stitching Learning basic hand and machine stitching Laboratory 4 days 3 Single Crochet Understand yarning techniques Laboratory 3 days 4 Dual Crochet Understand different loops and crochet patterns Laboratory 4 days 5 Slip Stitch Learning to join several parts Laboratory 4 days 6 Learning different stitching techniques Learning several designs in crochet Seminar and Laboratory 5 days 7 Finishing technique Learning to decorate the crochet Seminar and Laboratory 7 days 4.0 Ethical Consideration This training program will abide by all professional code of ethics and it will provide an experience certificate to the trainees which will indicate their proficiency in doing crochet. During the training, no insignificant learning will be provided and trainees will be given the freedom to provide their own design or decoration related idea in the training. Staying true to skill and performance is the major principle that will be maintained throughout the training program (Caffarella, 2002). References Brittain, S., & Manthey, K. (2012).
